Alright, so, I'm not sure what you call them exactly, the "Main Updates" for Android or what have you, but I've been having issues after installing the very latest one just awhile ago. Process went as follows:
1. Phone requested to install update for main android whatsit
2. Accepted, phone shut down as expected
3. On restart, showed screen with update percentage
4. After roughly 34% or so, computer starts up
5. S3 is now telling me that the update failed in some way, tells me to restart
6. Restart, phone starts like normal as if no updates were taking place

Ever since then, I've had the following problems:
1. Phone screen will not turn off automatically
2. Power button will work for the press and hold features (shut down/restart options), but will not turn off screen
3. Phone keeps giving the notification message "Security Notice: Unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes". Restarting as it asks does not fix this. Not sure if the spelling of "unauthorised" is a regional thing or just a spelling goof.

I don't know how, but this last update has borked the -hell- out of my phone, and I need help.

Perhaps boot into recovery and wipe the cache partition, then reboot from there. :)

I'll see about trying this out once I try and back up my data just in case!

What model S3? Most are updated as high as they will get 4.4.2, unless security update.
Mine is the SGH-I747M, says its running 4.4.2. I'm not sure if it was updating to this version that broke it or what, only that it was one of the major updates that require a phone restart.
