Help Screen quit rotating - what to do?

I noticed last night that my screen is not rotating into landscape mode. I'm nearly positive it is a hardware issue, because I could get it to rotate briefly by tapping it on something, but then it would immediately go back. I bought it at Best Buy on launch day. Is it too late to take it back there? I would much rather deal with them than Sprint or HTC support. I've never had to return a phone for anything before, so I'm just curious where I should start. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

i would try a hard reset first, to rule out any software issues.

Probably, but its worth a shot to call a manager at the store and see if they will do anything.

G sensor calibration was the first thing I tried when I noticed the problem. I'm doing a hard reset now, hopefully it will work!

The hard reset did the trick. Shows what I know about anything, huh?

Thanks for the help all. As bad as it sucks to have to reload everything on the phone, it is better than going through the return process!

Awesome. Sucks yoy had to, but hell, computers been around longer and they still have their issues.

Did you try the advice in post #4 before resetting? Just curious.

For too many people, doing a hard reset seems to be the only suggestion. That should be a last resort, not the first thing to try.

Does the orientation change in every screen when you tilt the phone or does it depend on what you have open? for eg. when I am on the web browser the tilt works fine but when I am in the phone settings page and tilt the phone it does not switch orientation.
Also, the orientation never switches when I tilt to the right, do you think that is a phone hardware issue or is that how the evo works by default??

I did do this. When orientation was unchecked, things were stuck in landscape mode. When checked, it went back to normal, but wouldn't rotate. That's why I assumed it was hardware, just figured something was stuck.

Thats how 2.1 works, 2.2 will go left or right. :D

* Settings still is only 1 way, in the RC of 2.2. I would like to see it rotate too!
