How would you'll rate the Screen of the s3.

With respect to The Quality of Gorilla Glass 2.
Compared to HTC One X.
and the widely used n tested S2.

On a Scale of 1-10.

I am using a Galaxy Ace. i have dropped my phone alot of times.
without any poblem.
My main concern is if i drop the phone the glass will shatter.
The opinion is from tests done on youtube.

This is the only thing keeping me from buying the s3.

All those who are using the device please comment on your drop experience.

Will a simple back case with front lip be able to avoid the shatter.

It's the same as any other smartphone, pretty much. Don't know why you would be especially concerned?

Look, all those "tests" you find on Youtube, are highly unscientific, some are even ridiculous. A casual drop from your hand, usually, would not scatter anything. It could possibly scratch the screen a bit, but that's all. Put a back cover on the phone and that should do the work. You're not going to throw the phone intentionally, are you? Unless the phone is thrown, even if not on purpose, one, two meter across, I wouldn't bother.

iPhone is even more fragile, the back glass shatters very easily.

If you drop your phone a LOT, I would get one of the Otterbox things that doubles the thickness of your phone. I have not dropped a phone in years. Do you carry it in your hand all the time? I guess I do not apprecaite my holster enough.

There are cases that have those wristbands, too, so that if you drop it, it's tethered to your wrist.

Gorilla glass is damage-resistant. Most people don't seem to know the difference between damage-resistant and damage-proof however. The glass will indeed scratch and break but will be more durable compared to traditional glass.

Well because it is very expensive.

Another issue is that once we buy it there is no trial period of 7 days.

so no exchange. eg if i got it from the shop and while going home i notice a problem i have to go to the service station and wait for it to be rectified.

Get a good case because it seems like you are proned to dropping your phone.

Will not be taking risk.
A cover will cover me.

I may use a full body cover.

I have dropped mine already by accident and it was a hard fall. I posted a thread about it. Maybe I was lucky because no damage happened on the phone except 3 tiny scratches that hardly visible unless you take a closer look. So far my s3 still works perfect. Now I'm buying an otterbox

You had a lucky escape.so far no one else has mentioned their drop experience.
The gorilla glass 2 is thinner not stronger than the original one.
But I feel it is more delicate.
Any more views real life experiences would give more clarity.

Put a screen protector on it, actually I think this is the primary reason to use one with Gorrilla glass as opposed to preventing scratches . Good quality protectors, not the cheap plastic ones, help with impact resistance.
