For Android 4.0 and above, hold Volume Down and Power at the same time - it'll take a screen shot.
For under 4.0, install an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.edwardkim.android.screenshotitfullnoroot
For a Samsung Note (Note, Note 2 or Note 3), press the button on the pen. Keeping it pressed, hold the pen tip to the screen until it takes the shot.
