Help Screen will not turn off when playing YouTube vids

I could have swore that when I put on a 45min video from YouTube a few weeks ago, my phone cut to dead screen after certain time period since it didn't sense any touch.

Now, when I want it to do that on purpose (listening to videos at work) it won't. Screen stays lit up during the whole video (which is just a lecture/speech, so I don't need to see anything).

If I try to hit the power button to make it turn off then I lose the playback of the video.

Anyone know how I can keep the video playing and turn off the screen?

YouTube has the ability to prevent your phone from sleeping, and has had that ability for a while. I don't know of anything you can do. Sorry.
