Help Screen won't lock during a call

Lurker
I got the Thunderbolt for my birthday on the 19th. I absolutely love it. It's frighteningly fast and full of all sorts of useful things that have made my conversion from an iPhone 3G to a Droid very smooth.

However, my phone's screen doesn't seem to lock during calls. It will occasionally, but more often than not, I accidentally hit end call with my cheek, mute the call, or navigate through my phone unawares.

In researching this, I've seen that some people have reported defective proximity sensors and were able to get their phones replaced. However, the store from which I bought the phone is two hours away, so I'd rather not make the trip to exchange it (though I will if that is the only/best option). Are there other settings I might tweak, or things I'm doing wrong, that I could fix in order to fix this problem?

Thanks!

Just get ScreenSuite...it locks your screen down until you swipe it back. No touch screen phone I've had has ever had a reliable proximity sensor that worked 100% for me, I've dropped/muted sooo many and was just done with it. ScreenSuite eliminated that PITA for me utterly.

Make sure that your face is actually close enough to the proximity sensor. Sometimes if I use my shoulder or move around the screen will turn back on and then your cheek can hit buttons. :)
