Screen won't turn on for notifications after lollipop update

Hey guys so I updated my Nexus 4 through OTA, and then I did a factory reset after as well. I have noticed that my sound and everything happens when I get a notification whether it be SMS, email, etc., however my display does not turn on. My pulse light shows after a few minutes after but the display doesn't turn on at all? I have been searching through my settings and I can't find anything. Any advice from you guys would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Are you talking about Ambient Display? The Nexus 4 didn't get that feature in the factory image, you can get it in several third-party ROMs though.

Yep, our N4's didn't make the cut for getting the Ambient Display feature of 5.0 - that really takes advantage of hardware that we just don't have (like an OLED display and a processor that can handle displaying notifications without waking the device).

I have toyed with AcDisplay to accomplish a similar function though. I don't use it full time (as it seems to conflict with my Smart Lock settings) but it's definitely worth taking a look. :thumbsupdroid:

No, I'm not talking about Ambient Display, I don't mind not having it, but just when I get notifications, my screen just doesn't turn on at all. I'm assuming stock at least the screen would turn on when you get notifications.

I used to use "Dynamic Notifications" (Sorry don't know how to link to the name on this site), and I remember even without my N4's screen would at least light up to my lock screen when I got a notification.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I don't remember my N4 ever turning the display on when I received a notification. I always thought it was just the blinking notification LED.

Interesting. I am almost 100% sure it was like that in KitKat, so I thought it would be like that in Lollipop. Maybe I'm delusional though as before lollipop, I used Dynamic Notifications for so long.

By default, android does not turn the screen on for notifications if a device has a notification light. This is the case at least as long as I have been using android (4.0 on)

Not quite entirely applicable, but I updated my N4 to the Paranoid Android Alpha-1 release last night, and it brings the sexy Ambient Display notifications. I'm sold - it should have been this way from the start (particularly since I've disabled the notification LED). :thumbsupdroid:
