Lurker
When or will there be an application or quick key to take screenshots? i notice that i would be able to do this on my computer without a root, but dont find that very convenient. will this be on gingerbread? will my mytouch be upgraded to gingerbread?

manthesun, how are you able to do it on the computer? I downloaded the SDK, but the Dalvik Debug Monitor won't recognize my MY4G ("no device found.") I made sure 'debug' was running on my phone. Is there a special usb connect I need to try?

Also, not that it helps 100%, but the Dolphin browser lets screenshot any webpage you're on..

Ok:

Step 1: Enable USB Debugging On your Android phone, go to Settings, then Applications, and then Development. Check the checkbox for "USB debugging." Step 2: Download the Android SDK Download the SDK for your platform here. Google also has some great installation documentation if you get lost. You will need to make sure you have a current copy of the JDK. To use the SDK, you also need to download an IDE like Eclipse. After installing Eclipse, you can install the Eclipse plugin to connect Android and the IDE together, or just do a lot of stuff via the command line. Go ahead and plugin your Android handset into a USB port on your computer, if it is not plugged in already. Step 3: Run DDMS After configuring Eclipse or whatever IDE you use to work with Android, you need to open up the DDMS application from within the "tools" folder in the Android SDK's main folder. After DDMS launches, select your handset from the menu on the left (it should be the only device listed). You might see an error message, but the debug tool should be loaded. Then, click CTRL-S on your keyboard. This will bring up the "Device Screen Capture" interface. From here, a static image is captured from what is appearing on your handset. You can save the image (nicely defaulted as PNG) and then refresh to your heart's content to grab updated or different screenshots from your device

Hi.

And now, I'd like to think we're all cool in here.

It's simple - we attack the issues, and not each other.

Freely re-post _solutions_ without the invective.

Cheers, thanksAlot! :)

As I stated you can use ShootMe but you need root access. If you don't want to root it then you can use temproot or dmss. Using temproot+shootme is the easiest.

Oddly, some of these phones, notably the Samsungs, seem to run ShootMe just fine without root - go figure!

I've yet to hear of other phones behaving that way.

Once upon a time, ShootMe wasn't a root app - I'm not 100% sure at all, but I think that that changed around June of last year.

HKM - would you have a temproot you'd recommend for the MyTouch 4G - z4root or Visionary? I think you're right - on an HTC the only way for that to work is with root.

behold_this - would this be the right pix for the non-root method? http://androidforums.com/evo-shift-tips-tricks/254871-battery-life-thread.html#post2137950

Right on. What software version are you on? The first update for the evo (according to htc) killed shootme functionality as well as an issue with bookmarks not erasing with a reset...must have forgot/removed that patch in subsequent updates. I can confirm for sure it doesn't work on mytouch slide (it use to when the phone was released but was patched in the MR update) or mytouch 4g (never worked)

Android 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.17
Software 3.70.651.1

I'm thinking about getting a MT4g, so sorry to hear it doesn't work. If you haven't tried Shootme recently, there was an update that came out a week or two ago.

Yeah tried it again...its still for root only on the mt4g:( it did use to work on the mytouch slide without root but it doesn't work anymore either.

I see you're on 2.2...i guess htc must not have added that patch to the evo 2.2 update, strange. Well, I guess enjoy it if/while it works. Lucky
