SD card and SoD poll

Hello chaps - I am having the SoD issue and am firmly of the belief that (in my case at least) installing an sd card is causal. I also believe as others do that there is a link to wifi behaviour.

In my case the phone came with no sd card (I bought my unit 2nd hand). So I have purchased a SanDisk 16Gb unit which may or may not be genuine SanDisk product.

I think I have gleaned from the other thread running on the SoD issue, that devices having the original sd card supplied with the phone is NOT SoD'ing. I may be wrong on that and if so would appreciate that information. In the absence of that I should like to know the following:

1) What size of card was issued with new phones?
2) What class (speed) of card was issued as original?
3) Which aftermarket sd card do you have fitted and have you suffered SoD's?

Thanx in advance!

whats SOD? sorry.

1 - 2 gig although some say they get phones with 8 gig in other countries.
2 - on the net I have heard people say class 2 or class 4, in my view the one that came with my phone is either a class 6 or 8. It isnt rated tho so only a guess.
3 - I today fitted a 8 gig samsung extreme class 10 card. Not had any problems as of yet but its only been a few hours use.

Samsung sells this phone in India with a 2GB class 4 micro sd card. Always a good idea to format a new card in the phone itself even though they are pre formatted.

socrates0 does the card itself say class 4 on it?

I can post a picture of mine later since its no longer in my ace. It has no class written on it.

Yes it says class 4 I saw this in the user guide I downloaded frm the samsung India site

Samsung uses approved industry standards for memory cards, but some brands may not be fully compatible with your device. Using an incompatible memory card may damage your device or the memory card and can corrupt data stored on the card.
I had read somewhere ( I cant recollect where) that it should be minimum class4. Even in India we get a lot of unmarked cards. Infact I had recently gone to a distributor for my warranty of another computer related accessory & there was an elderly man who had come with a 8GB micro sd card which was faulty but the guy at the counter said it was a counterfeit as it had blah blah blah marking which is not what they distribute thru their organisation. So it seems there are 'good' counterfeits in circulation.

My 16gig is a class 4 according to SanDisk information assuming it is original. Following days have proved the theory that it is linked to the wireless losing signal and having the SD card installed. It's a real shame as other than this the phone is great.

chrcol - SoD is Sleep of Death, where the phone suddenly appears to have switched off but in actual fact it enters some form of lock up.

Thanx chrcol - so 2 gig class 4 provided by Samsung doesn't conflict. That's a start thanx. Can't believe how few people are subscribing to this investigation considering the number that suffer SoD's?

my card in use now is a 8 gig class 10 samsung not 2 gig. The photo I posted is my old card that came with the phone.

I picked samsung as I figured they would make some effort to make sure their own micro cards work properly on their own phones.

Also still no SOD.

My phone is a bit slower on loading apps but not too slow. However I am now also messing with underclocking the cpu to save battery so that be affecting things also at the moment :)

Hmm... OK thanx for the clarification. I have no idea whether there will end up a clear correlation but must be worth a try.

Hello, i'm new here.
I bought my ace last week, and often it "SoD".
I upgraded in Kies to android version 2.3.6 hoping that it would save my phone.
I use a 4gb class 4 sd card, but I never used the wifi, but it stills SoD
Is there a definitive fix to this problem?
It happens with all samsungs Ace?
If i change my phone for a new one, can be the problem solved?

thx ;D

Oh Bollix! Thanx Dom - as far as I knew up until now everyone's SoD was linked to loss of wifi signal and now along you came....... LOL Ok it's back to the drawing board now. I think I need a beer!

I haven't had any SOD's yet (bought my phone last November). SD-card (out of the box) is 2G (not classified). I've upgraded immediately to 2.3.5 and no problems.

I have observed something interesting.

cf-root has a tweak which doubles my read speed on sd tools. However when thats enabled the phone is noticebly more laggy to use (remember I have my apps on sd). So I have now disabled the cf-root sd i/o tweaks and even tho my benchmarks are lower the phone is noticebly more responsive. No sod's yet and I have had the sdcard in now for many days and with my apps mounted to it.

I only ever experiences SOD on stock firmware. It was linked to the WIFI sleep policy. When set to sleep = never the problem was solved.

I must be very unlucky.
I took off the SD but it stills SoD today.
I did a factory reset and then i forget to set the sleep policy back to never, but in my case I think its not related to the SD card either, because without SD card it SOD.
I dont know what else i can try...

I give up!
I changed my ace for one galaxy W.
I had to pay more, but i hope it worth it.

Thx for the help guys...

Sorry for you dom. Hope the W works better for you.

Guys there's obviously a number of combinations of issues here and I'm giving up on this experiment. I'll just try to remember to switch off wifi before I go out of range from now....
