Help SD card "damaged"

Well first off hi, and thanks for taking the time to read this and or help me with this.

So I just got a pre-owned Droid 2 and it comes with the 8 gb SD card, well I already had a 4 gb one so I transferred all my five hundred and some pictures to it and put all my music on it. Well last night I went to listen to a song so I went to my music and it said my "SD card is damaged" Well I have no idea how that happened cause I was just playing a game that was on my SD card about ten minutes before so it just randomly started doing this.. I tried re-booting, taking it out and trying to clean it, I tried using one of those card things I got with my last SD card to put it in the computer. Tried 2 different computers, on both it didn't show up.. Well on my laptop it pops up the menu thing for about 5 seconds asking if I want to import pictures and what not and I tried that, but the next screen opens and says there is 0 pictures on it and then it disappears with the memory stick listing thing that shows on my computer after the 5 or so seconds. Oh and I tried putting the SD card in another phone and it listed how much memory was available and what not and even let me save a picture to it, and after that I tried putting it back in my Droid 2 with the same outcome, the message saying it was damaged and then not letting me see any pictures or music... I also tried going in to sd card settings and hitting the "mount SD card" button even though I'm not sure what it does haha, but it didn't change anything. it just says "SD card damaged" in the notification bar. I have no idea what else to try. I would like my pictures back.. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hopefully you have the pictures saved elsewhere, then you can reformat the card and put them back on it. Go to Menu -> Settings -> SD Card -> Format SD Card.

If that doesn't work, then there could be something physically wrong with the card and it might need to be replaced.

Yeah, I thought of that, but I don't. They were on the card. Never thought the SD cards could just randomly do this. I mean obviously if it had physical damage, but I always thought that they were pretty safe being in the phone and all.. The strange thing is, no problems this entire week (since I got the phone) and now all the sudden just a random error. I hadn't put anything on the SD card recently, I hadn't touched it inside the phone, and I had JUST used it. So I am baffled.

Yeah, I thought of that, but I don't. They were on the card.
Don't you have them on the old 4g Card still?

You should always keep a backup of anything that you really care about, stuff breaks :(

You might try a computer repair store, maybe they can recover it.

No, what I did was got on my old phone and moved them from the old SD card to the phone and then transferred them from there to the new SD card. And yeah, I'm going to from now on (especially if I can't get these back..) And there is one around here so maybe I'll try that.. Has anyone else heard of any problems with the Droid 2's SD cards?

I do still have the card though so I guess I'll switch to that for the time being cause I really don't want to lose all those pictures..

This has happened to me 3 times so far. First time it happened during spring break, i got to Florida, a couple hours later several pictures would not show up in my gallery, then on the way home from dinner it popped up out of nowhere saying "SD Card has become damaged or corrupt"

The second time it happened, it was as soon as my plane landed back in NY and i turned my phone back on, it attempted to load my SD Card's contents and got the same message.

It just happened again this morning, let my phone charge overnight, turned it on this morning, and it said "SD Card is Damaged or Corrupt" and yesterday i was able to take and view my pictures all except 5 or so pictures would not show up and were not viewable.

I've never dropped my phone, never gotten it wet, only took my SD card out after the first time it happened when we were at the verizon store, the guy said to take it out and put it back in, first tried to copy everything off my phone but did not work. The Lookout app apparently only backed up 5 contacts, 10 days ago, so nothing is backed up that i need as only pictures, videos, music, and apps were deleted.
The guy at the verizon store said nothing was wrong with my phone or card, so we just reformatted it and it worked. Had to do the same thing the 2nd time, and probly the same thing this time.
This is seeming to happen all the time, at completely random times, for no reason at all.

I wonder if its a defective card? maybe the phone? perhaps i have a virus that Lookout security cant find?
(PS this is a refurbished phone)

So, I just noticed. The first time this happened, was the sunday i got to Florida, the second time was the next sunday when i left florida, the third time was sunday 2 weeks later. HHMMMMMM coincidence?
