SD Card Error

I have a micro SD card in my phone and at the moment, I'm trying to put a few new ringtones on it. The problem is, whenever I plug the SD card into the computer, it continuously tells me that the card is "write-protected." I can't fix this through my computer itself so I assume that since it's been plugged into the phone that that's the problem.

Is there anyway to take the protection off the card while using my phone? All I can figure out is how to format it (which I've done; twice) and as far as I know, I haven't found a way to access the phone's memory by plugging it into the computer (all it does is charge).

Someone please help because I'm very frustrated.

What I'm using is my Galaxy, an HP computer, a Toshiba Micro SD adapter, and SanDisk 8 GB Micro SD card.
