Help SD card not mounting

Got the DT2 a couple of weeks ago, and have been having trouble with the SD Card slot. I have a 128GB microSD SDXC card, that I took out of my Samsung S5, which was working correctly, and put it into the DT2, and got an error of "Card damaged. Try reformatting."

I took the card out, put it into an SD card adapter, and there was all my information. Then I put it back into the S5, and the phone was able to read the card.

Just for curiosity, I backed up everything on the card to my computer, reformatted it, using the exFAT file system, and put the card back in the phone.

DT2 was then able to read the card. Took the card back out of the phone, as it does not have the USB External Storage setting anymore, and started reloading the card. I took the card out every 10GB or so (total of 103GB on the card) and right around 50GB or so, I got that same ""Card damaged. Try reformatting." error.

Same steps repeated with a brand new 128gb

Did a full factory reset on the phone, and still having the same problem.

Contacted Motorola and got a replacement phone. Same issue.

Any ideas? Thanks.

They referred me to the Order Admin department, and a phone number, but no fix about the issue.

Might the UHS class have anything to do with it? both cards are UHS-I

Page 54 of your User's Guide says to ...

Use Class 10 memory card.
Supports up to 128GB.
Don;t remove card while it is being accessed.

It doesn't mention it but it was mentioned on other devices.
Go to Settings | Storage and there is an option to uninstall the SD card.
Using this approach guarantees that it doesn't get pulled while still in use.

Have been using that method. But once the card gets to a certain capacity full, it gives me the damaged error. and that's with ejecting the media from the computer and phone.

What happens if you format the card with the Turbo 2? Maybe there is something with ExFAT that the phone doesn't like.

it works, and the phone recognizes the card, but I was trying to load the card through an external card reader. Have it formatted, and loading through a USB cable into the phone. so far, so good, but we'll see when it hits around 50GB or so... that's when I was getting the error through the card reader.

I checked the 128G card that I bought from the Verizon store. It is only a Class 1. I did not know anything about appropriate Class size when I bought the card over 3 weeks ago.

So I tried loading through the phone, but had an extremely slow transfer rate, and trying to load 102GB of data would take forever. Also, loading would crash right around 59-60gb of data. did it with both cards, which are UHS-1 Class 10 cards.

OS maybe? I'm thinking maybe not, as you guys aren't having any issues. not sure what else could be the issue.

My SanDisk 128GB card arrived and I filled it to test out these questions.

I installed it out of the package, did not format it, and copied a 10GB directory multiple times using ...
X-plore
Explore
ES File Explorer

X-plore started to throw errors when there was about 30-40GB on the card.
Explore simply died when the available space matched the used space (around 59GB)
ES File Explorer did not have a problem

It was reporting a transfer rate of 10-15MB/s until it hit 100GB used. The performance then dropped to the 1-2MB/s range.

The question I would ask is ... what is the brand of the card you are using? I have had excellent experiences with SanDisk and it is the only brand I use. ($99 at Staples)

Both are SanDisk. It's not that the programs would start throwing errors, the phone stops reading the card altogether.

I took a closer look at the SD card, and it is SanDisk UHS 1. Is this card too much or not appropriate for our Turbo 2s?

Mine looks like the attached.

Not an authority ... but from what I have read U1 like yours means the same as C10 in mine.

I bought mine at Staple in the US. Where did you buy yours?

I don't remember where I got my first one, but i bought a new one, identical to the ones above, at Best Buy.

Thom, when you said you were using ES File Explorer to transfer data, what was your method of transfer? From phone to card while internal, or through an external card reader?

Internal Memory to SD card in Turbo 2 card holder ... and ...
SD card in Turbo 2 card holder to another folder in SD card in Turbo 2 card holder.
