Root SD Card Problem?

I've had my Desire for 16 months, it has been rooted for over 12 months. I've never had a problem with anything, regularly changing ROM's etc. I've been using MIUI for the past few months and yesterday upgraded to 1.8.5. The update was smooth and easy as usual and my phone was working fine.

Late last night i went to check something on my phone and it wouldn't 'wake'. I left it for a few minutes and it was still the same, so i removed the battery and booted in recovery with the intention of restoring to a previous version. I then got the message 'E:Can't mount /sdcard'. Whatever i tried i couldn't get the phone to recognise the sd card. I tried re booting and the phone worked but i now have a blank sd card that can't be formatted.

I'm not bothered about all the stuff on the sd card, messages etc were backed up, and music can easily be reapplied. Is there anything i can do with the sd card? Do i need to buy a new one? If i do will that work correctly?

Try and format it in a card reader using gparted or something.

Dan, this continually amazes me, but why do cards just suddenly give up the ghost?

Its often down to a corrupt file system caused by an unclean dismount of the filesystem by the operating system. It happens on hard drives, flash memory drives etc etc. This is the reason you shouldnt turn a windows pc off using the power button.
