SD Card Uninstalling itself?

chmodx

Android Enthusiast
Synopsis: occasionally my phone's alarm does not play the song I select it to, instead it plays some weird naturist sounding built-in phone music.

Turns out occasionally through the day(every so often), something makes the sd card be "removed" and then "redetected." I have tried a new sd card so that does not fix anything.

Anyone know if this is a common issue?

I have this issue on my s4 google play edition. I've actually seen it happen a few times. It acts like you remove the card and stick it back in. I moved my ringtones and notification tones to the internal memory so I wouldn't keep losing them.

This is a common issue with cheap and fake branding SD cards.
Get an original one.

Wow, without even knowing this is your advice? Glad you could ascertain my purchasing history from my post.

FYI, all three SD cards are authentic. One was the OEM that came with the Note 2, the other 2 are genuine Sandisks.

Pardon me but we are not technicians, and this forum is not a repair shop. We are volunteers who have the will to help and we do our best based on our experience with frequent issues. This issue is very common to the degree that it has one resolution in most cases; the one I gave you, and it worked almost all the time with the ones who have the same issue. It even happened with me once. You know, with this high level of counterfeiting nowadays you can't tell whether a "genuine" SD card is really genuine until you use it for a long time. So just try another "genuine" one and use it for like a week, if the issue disappeared then that's it, if not, then best solution is to bring your device to a good repair shop. Good luck.

There is a known issue with some batches of SanDisk cards. If the card is new and you contact SanDisk, some folks have had luck with SanDisk replacing the card. I have contacted then several times and they seemed very disinterested, but said that they would send an RMA via email. I have yet to receive anything from them and it has been over a month. I just wrote it off as a $69 lesson learned.

The symptoms of the SanDisk card issue is the card will randomly unmount itself and it usually takes a card pull to get it to remount. The data is intact and the card works fine in a PC, but will usually unmount again when in the phone. This was happening to me 3 to 4 times a day. After all the frustration with SanDisk, I ended up buying a Samsung card and have had no issues since.

Good Luck

I don't blame you for the way you reacted. He could have been more polite with the post. The information is good.
But I wonder if there may be another issue too. Maybe with the phone even. I have a year old Adata card. Worked fine in my s2. Put it in my Note 2 which is only two months old. Now, I am getting the same issue. Tried Four other cards I have laying around. Various manufacturer. Same thing. Its frustrating. I'm going to see what Sammy sais. Still under warranty. Will see.

Sandisk cards are a known issue with the Note 2's (and I think other Samsung smart phones)

I had to replace my Sandisk with a Samsung sd card and I haven't had any issues since.

I hope this is helpful.

I'm not sure about Adata or any other brands but here is a very long thread on this issue. It's for the Tmo version but the issue is for all Note 2's:
