SD Card when backing up

Ziani

Hiya...Some of the posts I have read about upgrading the phones firmware say that they take out the SD Card, why would they do that and is it necessary? Thanks

Huh? I've never heard of that before. Back when I got the OTA update on a stock N1, I just let it do its own thing, no SD card removal required.

Sounds odd, if anything I'd expect some apps to complain if it was missing. When I upgraded to MoDaCo I just backed up the SDcard first.

Yeah I thought it strange too, think I might format my card anyway after backing up on pc then start afresh when the big 2.1 arrives :D

Speaking as someone who flashes (and reflashes, and reflashes) custom ROMs about twice a week: you only need to back up your SD card if you're partitioning it, and in the case of official updates, you should never have to partition your SD card ever.

You shouldn't need to back it up, but it doesn't hurt, just in case.
