Help sd delete protected file

Newbie
Ladies and gents, looking for assistance once again.

Only today I have noticed a couple of gremlins in my phone.

First up I was attempting to download a weekly podcast from website podbean and I keep receiving a notification that the file download was unsuccessful. I have checked my ext sd storage and phone storage and have 2.54GB and 5.97GB available respectively.

Second up I was taking a picture and noticed that the phone has saved the picture to phone memory and not my usual sd storage location.

Upon noticing these two unexpected anomalies I have connected my phone via usb to my laptop and attempted to access a couple of folders on the ext sd card in DCIM and delete a couple of photos.

I can view and then select the item and select the rubbish bin to delete and item / or two and the pop up message will say item deleted however this is not the case and the items are still there?

Finally I have tried to access the download folder in the storage/extsdcard folder, the folder opens, I can see the list however it appears to crash and take me back to the home screen.

How can I access the folder to delete files that are no longer required. Usb connection to the laptop says the files are write-protected so cant remove this way?

Can anyone suggest something to restore my phone back to the expected.

Update --> I have managed to access the folder thru my Androzip zip application. Upon attempting to delete the files they re-appear as fresh files. Do I have some sort of virus.

All other folder access in the extsdcard location under the stock my files app work. It appears to only be restricted to my downloads folder.

Apologies for keep bumping my own thread. As per previous post the download folder appears to causing me the issue?

when I acces my files app in the extsdcard folder, above the download folder there is a folder with the name

It sounds to me like the phone is having issues reading or writing to the SD card.

The simplest solution (although maybe a bit extreme so early on) would be to format the card and start fresh. For some reason these S3's seem to have a history with corrupting them

Another option would be to put the SD card into a card reader, put it into your computer and have the computer scan it for errors

if I was to format the card, apart from copying my photos and videos to my laptop, is there anything I should transfer over?

what else gets stored on the sd card?

it appears I have 5gb worth of memory held in the card to date?
