SD issue.

I know this topic has been discussed frequently, and I hate to do a post without doing as thorough research as I can, but I've had my Galaxy for 15 days and still haven't found anything that actually helps. Maybe I'm stupid. But with Android phones I've always found an answer very quickly to my issues and then so far I've only found complaints with this issue.

As I'm sure everyone knows by now, the GS3 doesn't allow moving apps to an external SD card. Many people seem to think 11GB is more than enough. Um... no. Not even close. I have used My Files to move my downloaded content to the SD card. Currently I have fewer of my apps than I ever did with my original EVO 4G or GS2. The apps I love have gotten bigger in size with each update and the newer apps I want all seem to be huge as well. This adds up quickly and I've deleted some of my favorite apps because they are huge, my phone says I'm out of memory, and I've realized that this issue is seriously hindering my enjoyment of the GS3, which aside from the app issue is a totally stunning device otherwise but this flaw is unacceptable. And it seems reasonable right now 16GB is all that's available. Where the HELL are the 32GB and 64GB versions? I'm so upset I'd buy a 64GB full price to enjoy the GS3. I had to delete three of the apps I'd use most to have enough space to receive a damn text message.

So can someone please tell me where I can find the best answers on this issue, and if anyone, whether it be a carrier or Samsung or Google had addressed this issue?

Also, the closest solution I've found was a root method I'm scared to try and I'm wondering if there's a simple way to do this if rooting is my only option. I've never rooted as of yet and I need the simplest method possible if it's my only option. My phone is the possession that's worth spending money and time on as Android can do pretty much anything you can think of, but the GS3 has in some ways been the most amazing piece of technology I've owned and in some ways, especially with the SD issue, makes it the most frustrating phone.

If anyone had any helpful tips or insight I will truly, truly grateful, and if the answer I'm looking for is already here please don't get too bitchy about it because I have to do all of my search on this phone.

:)

There is nothing you can do without root.

If you do root there is a tool called "Directory Bind":

[TOOL] DirectoryBind - move data to external_sd (GameLoft, Shadowgun etc.) ROOT req. - xda-developers

Which will bind the /sdcard part of apps Games for example are mostly on /sdcard instead of /data where the apps are.

so for example, Real racing 2:

/data/app/com.ea.game.realracing2-1.apk (2.26MB)
/data/data/com.ea.game.realracing2 (3.02MB)
/sdcard/Android/data/com.ea.game.realracing2 (1.13GB)

Now with this tool, you can Bind (move and redirect) anything on /sdcard to /extSdCard so you save 1.13GB there. You still can't touch the /data/* parts though so it depends specifically what space these apps you have are using...

Thanks. I appreciate your help. Is there a super simple root method for the GS3? I've never rooted myself and if I bricked my phone, especially this one, it'd literally most likely make me cry. Ha.

I've noticed on KSL (local NBC affiliate that has a site similar to Craigslist) that people offer to root your phone for $30 so maybe I'll have to first invest in a 64GB SD card and then pay someone to do it for me.

I've been working on it all day yet my phone is still limited in space and I don't have everything I'd like to make my phone completely suit my needs. Very frustrating. Why is Sammy so slow to release the larger versions?

Each version of the s3 is different so roots differently. Have a look at the top of this forum for the relevant "all things root" section...
