I have a sony xperia sd...i have a 8gb micro sd card...when i fit it to the pnone it takes a long time before the data is available...why and how long will I have to wait ?

The card has to be scanned for media files - it's what Android does. How long depends on how many folders and files and how fast the phone is. (And how many media files you have stored in the phone's internal storage.)
