Help SD wiped after copying one photo

All I did was copy one photo from my PC to SD card while plugged in via USB, noticed it just sat there with the progress bar full but not closing. It wouldn't close or respond, so I just pulled it. Tried again but still no dice, so I copied it to the internal memory instead, worked fine.

However, an hour later I noticed my SD was completely empty, just a few empty folders. Fortunately I had everything backed up. I'm just wondering if the lone file that got stuck in transit earlier is what caused this. If so, why was it that one file? If it copied to internal fine, what's the problem with the SD? I haven't copied anything back yet just in case. Is there any way I can test the card to see if there's a problem, or do you think it's just a one-off?

edit: I should mention, before this happened: I was trying to sort out my camera's photo save location on the SD, it was quite confusing so I took about 5 photos in total, plugging and unplugging each time. I wonder if that contributed to it.
