Searching ROMs for the ZTE Compel based on android 5.0

Well, I think the version of Android the ZTE Compel I have has installed (KitKat 4.4.4) is BORING. I want an ROM for the ZTE Compel based on Android 5.0 now!

ochbrze, my phone is not rooted because idk how to root an Android device, if you are talking to installing an OS from an SD, I tried to get an Android 5.0.1 ISO file onto my SD, go to Recovery Mode & selecting the option to upgrade android Via SD and it doesn't work, if you know of an Android 5.0 ZIP or ISO file, give me the link to download it.

I have Recovery Mode version Z830V1.0, it you are talking about having a different recovery than an Google Nexus (normal android), thanks to the version # I think I have custom recovery mode.

you can't install a rom that way. you first need to gain root access. you can however flash a firmware update....provided there is one for your phone. i'm not at all familiar with zte phones so i do not know exactly how to update your phone. basically thru your phone you can check to see if there is an update available. if there is no update then that is that.....not much you can do.

you can try rooting, but there is no developer supporting your device. they are the ones who provided rooted roms that can included updated os's for your phone. just remember no devs=no fun.

Where did you get the 5.0.1 ISO file from? Is it for the ZTE Compel(Z830)? Because AFAICT ZTE never updated this phone beyond 4.4.4

If it's a custom ROM, those can't be flashed with the stock ZTE Recovery. The phone needs to be rooted and a correct custom Recovery installed, like TWRP (if that exists for this phone).

Oh god, now like I said before in an Android Forms thread (not this one, but I created it). IDK how to boot my device and I never heard of TWRP.

mikedt, it is an official android 5.0.1 iso I downloaded from an webpage. I forgot the name.

Does it state it's specifically for the Compel Z830, the phone you've got? Because ROM images and ISOs must be specifically built for the devices they're intended to run on.

"ISO" implies it's a CD-ROM image, which is not something you'd normally apply to an Android phone or tablet.

I first viewed a ISO file when I downloaded an Office95 copy on winworldpc.com to my SD and finded a lot of ISO files, an EXE, and 2 TXT files called readme and readme2.

Well that sounds like you've got some ISO of Android-x86, which is intended to boot and run on a PC. That will NOT install on a ZTE Compel phone, no way. ROMs for Android phones and tablets don't come as ISOs(CD-ROM, DVD-ROM images), well non that I've ever heard of.

like i said you can't update or install a rom like that. it is either flash a firmware update or update the phone within the phone's settings.

or pick a better phone that has a more updated android os.

Recovery mode has an option to update it from PC, so idk if I use it.

again you can't use iso files that way as @mikedt suggested. my two choices are THE ONLY WAY TO UPDATE YOUR PHONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any other venture is pointless and a waste of time.

Yes, and that's intended to run a ZTE utility on the PC that flashes the phone with an original ZTE firmware image, AND NOT SOME WHATEVER ISO!!!!!!!!

Basically the ZTE Compel has never had anything later than 4.4.4. So if you want a newer Android version, you'll need to buy a new phone, and that's it!!! And if you're in the US, it won't be a ZTE, as they're out of the American market now.

Atcually, i have some junk phones in my room, and maybe my LG K10 can be my new daily driver, and i am from Puerto Rico, where AT&T is GONE and converted into Liberty Telephony.

I understand you frustration. I'd just thought I'd say the other members are providing you guidance and there information is valid. Mr. ocnbrze is just trying to help you.
I'm not familiar with you specific device but if your ZTE is set to automatic updates then you should already be om the latest firmware. The closest thing to an update would be flashing a custom rom. To do that would require replacing your stock recovery with a custom recover like TWRP. Much of it depends on device, model, carrier and an unlocked bootloader. Most people who flash custom roms also root there device but some just flash the custom rom. You can find information on XDA. In my case ,I search XDA Sprint Note 4.

So a couple of things need to happen, if you want android 5 on your device.

One....since the is no official update to android 5, you will need to root it.
Second..... you will need a development community supporting your device which at the moment there is not. So as of right now your device can't be rooted.
Third..... if there was a community behind your device, then you could then flash a android 5 custom rom. However, since there is no dev community, you can't.

.....or you can just buy a new phone with a newer android os. TBH android 5 will not be that much of an improvement. A lot of apps will demand using the newer android. Apps and websites may not run as smooth. An android 5 phone should really only be used to make phone calls, text, and check your emails. I would not trust it for anything else.
