Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables - Under development

Newbie
Hi everybody. I am developing an app which lists the seasonal fruits and vegetables month by month. I am writing here because I would like to know which features could be more interesting.

A simple description of my app can be found on my website: Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables for Android

I was thinking about features like:
- mark your favourite products and see them in a separate list
- share this list by mail, or on facebook
- having new notifications each month, with the new list of seasonal products.

If you are interested in trying a beta version, or you would like some other feature included in that application, please let me know.

How about a "local seasonal fruits" function that uses your location to show when localy grown fruits are in season? :)
Add local suppliers and you could have a winner

How about in addition to that you also include where you can buy each fruit

Ok I guess I can have categories for "macro areas" such as north / south / east /west america, canada, south / north europe, uk, australia.

Having a local supplier for each product would be hard, what about locating nearest shops / markets?

You would need to do things by area in some way. As far as I understand it, the US for example does have a system of climate zones for growing veg, etc. I don't know if there is a similar system anywhere for Europe (and I live in the UK...) but perhaps you could research what systems do exist in which parts of the world and where possible, use this as a basis for defining areas in your own project?

Hmm... Just done a bit of googling and found Hardiness zone - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
this relates to what will grow where.

Yeah I definetely have to have different calendars for different areas. The hard part is to define the areas and to find informations about the different seasonal products growing in different areas.

The hardiness map could be a good source of inspiration but maybe is a bit too accurate for my purpouses. I know that knowing exactly what you can find in your local store would be a big plus, but it's really hard to find that kind of information and to implement.

I'll start with us, canada, europe splitted as much as I can based on the informations I can find on the internet.

I'll keep you posted, and will let you know if I have a beta available. In the meanwhile, suggestions are more than welcome.

Yes, good luck with it. I'd certainly be interested in seeing how it develops although on a personal level, I think I'm reasonably in touch with what's available locally and in season anyway and we do grow some of our own stuff - I've got some asparagus to pick for tea tonight...

Adding whats avaiilable in the wild at certain times of year and a guide to finding, identifying them would be excellent but thats adding a lot more work lol :)
