Security Breach in my home wireless network?

I'd like to know how I can make sure that my home network doesn't have any open ports for my neighbours to be able to access my files. I'm very worried about this because I've recently installed a few 'streaming apps' like 'VLC Streamer', 'Plex' and 'Air PlayIt' onto my Mac Mini and Windows PC. These apps give access to my files and folders on the Mac Mini's and Windows PC hard drives.

These 'streaming apps' stream video and other files to my tablet and iPod Touch devices. I now wish to delete or 'lockdown' these streaming apps.

Ensure that (a) you've changed the default log-in username and password for your router's admin interface, and (b) that the wifi access key is strong. These measures will stop any unauthorised access to your network.
