Lent my Nexus S to my niece at the weekend so she could play Angry Birds. Ten minutes later she had download a new game using my credit card details stored by Google with no validation at all.

It would seem that if Google have credit card details stored then they do not request a password to download using it. Seems quite a security risk to me. Would the same apply to downloading movies, music or books?

I have now deleted my card info but is there anyway of forcing a password for a download.

Ironically when deleting the card info I had to confirm acceptance of the new terms and conditions otherwise I would not have been able to delete it. There was no such requirement before making the download.

You can set the Play Store app to require a PIN for purchases (see the app's settings). It's just not the default.

Thanks. That's well hidden. Haven't tried it for purchases because will need to reinstate my credit card but it does not seem to prevent download of free games. But at least it should protect my card.

Open the play store, hit your menu key then go to settings and scroll down a little and you'll see it

When you enter the market on your device click on the menu button and click on settings. Then navigate down to where it says set or change pin then profit

You can install a locking app for extra security as well. This way you can lock certain apps, including the Play Store, needing a pin to use it. I use "Super AppLock".
