Help Security "None" option vanishes on Lollipop

Nexus 5 Android v 5.0 Build LRX210

Weird problem.....The "None" option under the security screen lock menu is no longer present. It's not been greyed out....its completely disappeared as an available option.

The option was there when I first upgraded, but has since disappeared. Difficult to pinpoint when, but perhaps after I started trying Smart Lock (Trusted Face).

I have since switched Smart Lock off - re-booted several times. No luck.

Device is not encrypted and there are no additional profiles (other than guest)

Anyone experience this or have a clue about the solution?

Very strange. I might recommend doing a cache wipe from the recovery. I assume you are still on the stock one.

Shut down the device. Hold volume down/power to get to bootloader.

Select recovery. This will give you an android lying on his back.

Press power+volume down. You may have to do it a few times, I always have trouble getting it on the stock recovery.

Select wipe cache

Reboot

Thank you.....I will try this.

Just want to confirm....will this wipe data (of the "traditional" type) from the phone?

Anything I need to be aware of?

Good question :)

A cache wipe won't touch the phone data. There is an option from recovery that will wipe data, but we don't want that one.

Struggling a little here........thanks for bearing with me, and yes, this is stock Android 5.0 – locked phone – Nexus 5 as out of the box

No problem getting to the Bootloader screen - I've done it times before.

Not sure if I'm having the same issue as you described with difficulty getting to the Cache Wipe but here's what I experience.....

Power and Volume down gets me to the Recovery mode.
Volume down cycles through the following:

Start> Restart Bootloader> Recovery mode> Power off

I select Recovery mode and press power ....the phone reboots and takes me a much smaller Android on it's back and a red triangle with ! inside it's open front panel. Underneath it says "No command." Volume buttons do nothing. A long press of the Power button is required to break out of this mode.

Alternatively, I select Recovery Mode and then press power and volume down. If it detects power first, I get the mode described above. If it detects Volume down a split second before, it just selects the Power off option and powers down.

Is this simply a difficult mode to get to, or am I missing something, or could this be something that has been changed in Lollipop?

The android lying on its back is the stock recovery. There is a button mash command that opens up a list of options including the one we want.

I was wrong - Hold power down and press volume up once to open up this hidden menu.

I learned something new today then, I usually just press it over and over again until I see the options to "wipe cache partition". :dontknow:.

OK ..... got it! Thanks.

It's formatting cache now....seems to be taking a very long time. Been stuck there several minutes. Is this normal? <Panic mode on>

...strike that....it's finished....but it didn't solve the original problem.

I also tried rebooting in safe mode....no joy.

I appreciate your assistance though. If you come up with anything for me to try please update the thread, otherwise, I'm assuming this is a bug that Google will fix.
