See image. Will I get spammed by Samsung? No way to uncheck the boxes.

See this image first: This Samsung screen is forcing me to choose all boxes even though I don't want to. If I click "Continue" I fear that I'm unwillingly giving Samsung permission to spam me. Any way to hit Continue without Samsung forcing all boxes to be checked? Anyone know if I'll start getting lots of ad spam after hitting Continue? I would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks. PS: And I REALLY don't want to be forced to give Samsung my precise location data.

They're not optional. When I uncheck any one of the circles, the "Continue" button becomes greyed out and cannot be pressed. Any ideas?

Well you can unsubscribe them via email. Relax you will not get spammed at all, I have a Samsung tablet, and I don't get spamed at all.

I didn't mean email spam, I mean getting unwanted notification spam on my phone; notifications that I can't turn off. And, as I mentioned, I really don't want to give them my location. Can Samsung secretly get my precise location even when I turn off location? Can Samsung turn on location even when I've turned it off? I've got a Samsung A73.

Well that's a legit Samsung new privacy notice.
You're either going to agree with it, or not.
Just close the pop up window and contact them.
Reboot your device if it doesn't go away.
I wouldn't worry about it, phone companies are always updating their policies.
If you're that worried about them tracking you, jump to a different carrier and phone.

in your samsung shop app you can always toggle off the special offers and news option. and in the same app there are ways to manage your data that can be collected for advertisements. it is found under samsung's privacy website.

For various reasons, iPhone and Graphene aren't options for me. I'll bite the bullet and go ahead and hit Continue and hopefully Samsung will let me disable things if they send me notification spam.

I'll try Pixel for my next phone. Hopefully the Pixel won't be as spammy as Samsung.

i have a fold 6 and never have i received any bloatware or any spam from samsung. just check to make sure that you have the special offers toggled off and you should be fine.

"just check to make sure that you have the special offers toggled off and you should be fine."

I checked and it's off. Thanks for the tip.

I've never agreed to give precise location access to the Samsung account, and I've not noticed anything not working as a consequence. I'm certainly not going to give them that permission just to read the updates to their policies.

Truth is that apart from a couple of Edge apps I use I can't think of anything a Samsung account does for me. I'm sure it has uses, but they aren't things I use (I wouldn't use a vendor-specific service anyway, since I prefer to have the freedom to change manufacturer or even platform with the minimum of hassle).

Same here. I never gave anyone to pinpoint my breaths.

IIRC, I could only Continue if I agreed to precise location tracking. I'll double check when the update agreement request comes back. In any case, I almost always have my location turned off. Hopefully Samsung can't get my precise location with location turned off.

No, they shouldn't be able to get location with it turned off. It's possible you can turn it off later, but as I would never have agreed to that in the first place and would simply never have created a Samsung account (since I know that Android works just fine without one) my best guess is that this dialogue requiring you to allow "optional" permissions is different from how it used to be.

This Samsung dialog is an example of what Cory Doctorow calls "ensh*tiffication". You've probably heard that term.

Oh aye. In a profit-driven system it's essentially inevitable once any company gains any significant market power, since corporations are legally obliged to be entirely self-serving entities.

👍 I totally agree. It's taking all my willpower to stop myself from going on a political rant about the oligarchy. 🤣
