I contacted Shabbypenguin who had me contact giantpune who told to me to use the Samsung Galaxy Reverb root method. This can be done on phone. I don't have your guys phone, but I'm a nice guy :-) So try this at your own risk.

Simply download the zip here: ZTEAvidRoot.zip - 783.68 KB

Unzip on your phone

Install Ministro II.apk

Then Install Poot-debug.apk

Open poot and "download binaries"

Next, Click on "click here to poot"

Then "restart your phone" after selecting "click here to poot"

Once rebooted, Download and install superuser (not SuperSU)

Next, open superuser and update the su binary.

You should now be rooted!

This is giantpune's root method for lots of devices. He said that if this doesn't work, and you guys are willing to pull together and buy an Avid for him, he would be more than happy to try and root you guys :)

Good luck!

Try turning USB debugging on...

Edit: have you rebooted after the error? I have read people had this error and all they needed was to reboot and download superuser and they had root....

After exhausting several "universal" root methods for ICS phones, I have tried to manually apply an update from the stock recovery, by copying the necessary files (su, busybox, etc.) to my sdcard.

To enter stock recovery mode from the command line (using adb) you can simply type "adb reboot recovery". Alternatively, power off phone manually and before you power the phone back up, hold the volume up button and turn on as normal.

From here, I selected "apply update from external storage" and pressed the power button. Then, I select the signed ZIP file to perform the update and press the power button and get the following:

-- Install /sdcard/0001 ...
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Even though the many packages I've attempted were signed, I have ran into the same error on all circumstances. I have even signed them myself, to no avail.

Another method that I have attempted was to simply perform an "adb push" of su and busybox. Since /system is not writable (read only file system) I am unable to copy files. I've tried to "adb remount" and it returns an error of "Operation not permitted". So, from "adb shell" I have manually attempted to remount the partition using the mount command and received the same error.

If anyone knows another method on how to successfully remount /system so that it becomes writable, I am fairly certain it would work on this device. Or, if anyone knows how to properly sign a "flashable" rom ZIP for use in stock recovery, I'm all ears.
