There is a discussion of this problem in the Nitrodesk google groups forum. One if the users can replicate the behavior, I think his name is Scott, so at least you can know when it'll occur, and he explains how to correct the condition. I don't know if there's a fix yet. I think it has to do with how you get to the mail list.
