Help Selfie Folder

AmoHTC

Lurker
Hi,

Since installing Lollipop, I noticed that all Selfie's now get stored in a Selfie folder in the gallery.
However if I decide to move a picture from the Selfie folder to another folder and then delete the picture from the Selfie folder, the moved picture in the other folder also gets deleted.

Also the Selfie folder is not visible in file manager.

Please help.

Thanks

Are you sure it's an actual folder and not just your gallery app showing images taken with the front camera in a separate category?

I never use the front camera on my phone, but just tried it and yes, the built-in gallery app (which is linked to the camera app) showed the result on a "selfies" folder. BUT it also showed it in the regular camera folder, and if I long-pressing the image and select "details" it shows the actual location to be in the usual camera folder.

So my guess is that the "selfies" category is just images that are tagged as being taken with the front camera. So you see the single image in both "selfies" and the folder it is physically in, but there is only one copy, and hence if you delete it it will vanish from both "folders" (in quotes because there isn't an actual selfies folder on the device).

Hi,
I just moved a selfie pic from the camera folder to another folder. I then tried to delete the pic in the selfie folder and it deleted the pic in the other folder.
Is there anyway to stop it showing in the selfie folder, or stop it saving to the selfie folder?
Thanks

There is no actual selfie folder. The Gallery app is showing a collection of pictures taken with the front camera and calling them "Selfies", but they are not really in a separate Selfies folder. So wherever you move them they still appear in "Selfies", and as there is only one copy of the photo if you delete it it is gone.

I can think of 3 things you can do about it:

1) In your gallery app open the app's settings and see whether there is an option to hide folders or otherwise turn off the Selfies view. Since manufacturers often use their own version of the Gallery app this may depend on what phone you have.

2) Use a different gallery app - there are plenty in the Play Store (I'm currently trialling F-stop and Piktures). The "Selfies" thing is just something your built-in Gallery is doing, so if you use a different app you won't get that.

3) Ignore the Selfies collection if you don't find it useful.
