Help Semi Bricked Nexus 7 please help.

Hi guys.

So I got a nexus 7 a couple of days ago. And after using it for a while it froze. I tried to reboot to no avail. Then I went into recovery mode and tried to do a hard reset but again, it makes no progress.

So I downloaded the SDK kit aswell as the nexus 7 root toolkit. But I can't make and progress because I did'nt have usb debugging enabled.

When I try restoring via the root toolkit, I get fastboot "locked" errors.

Is there any way to unlock fastboot without access to the nexus' setting menu? Since I can't turn the thing on.

Also, upon loading the root tool kit I get an "adb outdated" error.

Is there anything I can do to fix my Nexus that would not require Usb debugging enabled?

Many thanks for any help you can provide.

You don't need USB debugging for fastboot. Also, are you trying to unlock the bootloader and root the device?

If you haven't done anything like that, and it's messing up, you're still covered by warranty. If I were you, I'd get it replaced. Unlocking your bootloader and rooting can get you in a situation that will void your warranty, and if you don't know what you're doing will be a royal pain in the ass.

There's how to guides on the subject in this forum. Read up on the process. For some it's easy, for others it's difficult. So be sure you're up for it.

You used version 1.5.5 of the Nexus Root Toolkit by Wug didn't you?

Use version 1.5.4. I took the liberty of finding you an old link. I think you will find success with the previous version. Don't ask how I know. :)

Thanks for the reply. No I'm not trying to root, I just want to restore it. Unfortunately, it was a gift from my brother, he got it after doing a market research panel. So I have no warranty.

Everytime I try to restore on the device via the bootloader it freezes.

And anything I try on toolkits just come back with ''fastboot locked''

Well since the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus are practically the same operating system, I used the galaxy nexus guide.

The only thing you'd do differently would be to download the factory image for the nexus 7 instead of the one for the GNex.

Thanks Jova33.

I've tried the guide but I can't get the device recognised through adb. Probably because I don't have Usb debugging enabled on the nexus. And I cant get it on to allow usb debugging.

So when it boots up, how far does it go? You're able to get it to reboot, so where is it freezing?

it fails to boot and goes straight back to the google logo. I've tried to factory reset in recovery mode but it just freezes, I left it on all night yesterday but no progress.

I tried to do a stock recovery with wugs toolkit but it fails with ''fastboot locked''.

I think I'm screwed, I've been trying everything and anything for the past 14 hours.

I used the naked driver off xda. Surprisingly if you Google that with safe search off you don't get porn results.
You can boot into fastboot? The place where it lets you select recovery, bootloader, or system reboot.
If so you can do it manually with adb.
Just from the command prompt, navigate to where adb is, and type in the stuff(can't remember off the top of my head, it's in that how to guide).
