Send Masked SMS Possible?

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if anyone knew of an application which allowed you to send a masked SMS? I know it sounds dodgy, but let me explain, I am the "techie" guy for a Motorcycle club when we were small we would have no problem keeping track or our riders during cruise's but some now our rides get anywhere between 30-100 riders and as you can imagine it is a logistical nightmare. I have a pretty generous plan for my phone so the committee has been looking into sending mass SMS's to all riders informing of our location and where we are stopping and for how long. Only thing is I don't exactly want 100's of people having my personal number, I know there are services that do this but we are a non-profit and we don't even have paid members yet so our cash flow is very much in the negatives so we would really like any ideas to do this. I don't suppose there is an app (similar to latitude) which would solve the same problem? I am really hoping for an app which would let me mask my number like services do (which just display text) it would be very cool to have club notification sms system.

Could the club get a Google voice number associated with a gmail account? That way you could send the messages from that account (and receive them back) but the number they would be coming from would be the clubs phone number. I know when I set up my voice account it was free to get a phone number.

Another advantage to this is it the responsibility could be transferred or shared as you can access it through an app or through the web.

Damn I knew I should have mentioned this in my post but omitted it for no real reason what so ever; I'm in Australia, we don't get cool free things like you guys because no one really knows we're here XD

Doh! That sucks. Sorry. I know (I think) some of the third party apps allow you to send from another number, you could check them out. I'm not sure if I am confusing that with email though, its not something I've tried.

Thanks for trying anyway, yea I know email address's can be changed easy enough I've done it several times for my IT course when setting up mail servers, I was just hoping SMS's operate the same way where you could modify the number before sending but I'm guessing it must be server side and the number is probably added by the provider when it is sent and not through the actual phone itself...which makes sense...

There are SMS service providers where you can mass SMS your subscriber list and your number wouldn't show up. There is a fee involved based on how many texts you send out per month. I remember the fee varying from 0.03 - 0.10 per text (USD) based on volume ect.

If your club charges fees, you could easily have the club subsidize the service. It would also take the responsibility off of a single person. Anyone could log into the site and send a mass SMS to the club.
