Help sending mms

Hey guys. I realise that by default smartphones use network data to send mms but I have mine disabled as it kept charging me when I wasn't using data.. I have been turning background data off unless I am using the market.. if I keep background data off and turn network data on will it still charge me when I'm not using it? I'm just wanting to send mms without having to mess about with settings every time. I've read about an app called Android enables data for mms only while disabling data for everything else. Can anyone confirm this thanks?

all it needs is to configure the APN's either manually or install an APN app from android market, choose one that works for your country and provider.
or if you just want to send MMS and not use the internet data then disable the internet APN keeping only the mms APN enabled.

I feel like a complete noob, but under

Settings > Wireless & network > Mobile networks > Access point names >

right down at bottom is APN types, in there are 3 options - internet & mms / internet / mms. obviously i want mms, so if i have it on that would that allow me to have packet data enabled permanently without extra hidden costs?

I'm totally useless with smartphones. Give me a computer anyday

BW im on PAYG with no internet on my tariff. With my previous phone (tocco lite) I was able to send mms no problem with just a small cost.

Same as me. I had Tocco too. You should have been sent two configuration servlets in SMS by your service provider. MMS and Browser. Go to your SMS app press the Menu (left) button and check your 'configaration messages'. Make sure you click them to install properly.
