Sense 2.1 UI Questions/Answers - Incredible

Kuga

Newbie
Okay, I'm sure that for many of us, the Droid Incredible will be our first Android phone/device.

There have been several threads already with posters asking questions about the UI, and I figured we can ask them all in this thread to conserve space and be more organized.
Asking the questions in the Official Thread is kind of difficult because the thread moves at such a quick pace that not all questions are addressed properly, or addressed at all for that matter.

I guess, if this thread grows strong enough, I will update this first post "FAQ-style" so that people with questions about Sense UI can get answers quickly or get their own questions answered

Those with Eris', Desires etc. [phones with Sense] can help those that have questions!

Lets try to keep the thread related to questioning and answering only. :)
Please only answer if you use or have used the Sense UI or have sufficient knowledge to properly answer.

Thanks!

Yes and yes.

Gotta have a working Bluetooth voice dial option - Devour has it, no U.S. Droids have it. Verizon might drop the ball again though. What has kept them from getting Nuance voice dialing on the Droid I'll never know.

I too am interested if the Incredible will have voice activated bluetooth dialing. I currently have a droid and can't believe that in 2010, this isn't standard.

If I switch to Home, will I get the live wallpapers, 3d app drawer, and sweet photo app of stock android 2.1?

No app gives the ability to initiate a call via Bluetooth on the Droid. There are just these hacks to work with the built-in voice dial. No voice prompt or response on your headset. Not handsfree. Man this is going to suck if Verizon gimps yet another phone.

While I know you can turn off Sense UI entirely, is is possible to switch off individual elements? Specifically, could you opt to use the stock Android keyboard instead of the Sense UI one?

Does the sense UI keyboard allow for voice input similar to the stock Android one? From the images I've seen, it doesn't appear to have the voice option.

I read that as photoshops, as in the program Gimp lol.

Could someone please list the key differences between this latest version of HTC Sense and the older version found on phones like the Droid Eris?

Does anyone know if the Incredible will have the "carhome" and the "navigate to" like the droid has? I would guess so but need to confirm this for my own piece of mind?

Hi there, sorry if this question seems a bit basic, but I don't know a whole lot about the Sense UI. If I understand correctly, it's main purpose seems to revolve around making it more convenient to access social networking sites and features by baking them into the main UI. That being the case, since I don't have accounts on any of those sites, would the Sense thing just be a waste of my time, or does it serve any other purpose besides being a frontend for Facebook/Twitter/etc?

Apparently, you'll have the ability to disable 'some' of it, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off holding out just a little bit longer for another phone without Sense? Played with the Droid and really liked it, but the craptastic keyboard just wasn't doing it for me. The Incredible seemed to be just what I was waiting for, until I heard about Sense :(

I think there's "other" stuff too, What I was told and works pretty good. Go to the Verizon Store, play with the Eris and Droid Side by side, Figure out witch you like better UI wise...

I hear you on the Droid Keyboard, I couldn't stand idea of spending $200 (at the time) on a device with a physical keyboard that I would never use because it sucked so bad... Honestly, if they would have come out with a keyboardless version at the same time, I'd prolly be a droid owner right now

Keep in mind that you can remove the social widgets like Friendstream if you prefer. A few things I like about SenseUI over stock android are the addition screens (7 instead of 5), the nice HTC widgets (clock and weather, among other things), and the bar on the bottom of the screen that not only brings up the app list, but also provides a persistent button for the phone function.

My office is a mix of Droid, Eris, and iphone users. Everyday us Eris users get questions as to why the droid cant run a particular widget or have a particular feature that are all built into Sense. I think you will like the Sense UI much better than running stock android. The only thing I wish for from the droid is the ability to search all facets of the phone and not just have a Google search.

There is an app on the Market that allows this. I had it on my Moto DROID, before I returned it to pre-order the Incredible under the Worry-Free-Guarantee. I believe it was called "Aurora Search". LOVED it!!! Searched everingthing on phone... Contacts, Calendar, etc...

Hope this helps!

Jon

From what I've read, sense can't be turned off on the incredible. It actually talks about it on androidcentral.com. I'm going from the eris, so it's no big deal for me. Sense makes the ui seem more polished and finished than the plan android ui
