Help Separate widget locations for vertical/landscape?

Is it possible to set the location of the widgets so that they are in different spots depending on whether you are in landscape mode or not?

I hate how they cover the wallpaper image when I switch between the two.

Unfortunately this is not a feature that the stock phone provides and I have not heard of any sort of third-party download that allows this.

ADW and Launcher Pro allows to resize widgets.
Can't go lower than 1x1, but maybe this will help.
