Help Serious audio issues

I'm on the fence right now about sending my gTablet back. I'm having issue with audio. If I play a mp4 video (also with some games and youtube), leave the program running in the background (as opposed to using quit if available) and put the tab to sleep, when I power it on all audio may be gone or worse, there will be a repeating full volume white noise. The only way to fix the problem is to reboot. I am currently running VEGAn 5.1.1 with supplement. I've found a few similar complaints but can't determine if this is a hardware issue related to some units, a hardware issue related to all units or a resolvable software issue. If I return to woot, it's doubtful I will be offered a replacement, so resolution might mean giving up the tablet. I can almost live with the rebooting unless it's just mine (and a few other) unit. I've tried a hard reset with no improvement. Anyone else seeing this or have any idea how to fix this?

You can try installing a custom kernel. Don't ask me how and why it could help but it's worth a shot if you haven't tried it. :o

I use Clemsyns kernel but I heard pershoots kernel is good too. I haven't had any issues with my gtablet. I'm not sure if I'm lucky or if its something I did.

If not, you can always try a different ROM.

Hope everything pans out.

I'm going to flash back to stock and maybe give gAdam and/ or TNT a try. I already have both kernals downloaded. I've got the sneaking suspicion that I have a bad unit. The kicker is that it performs fine except for this issue, but having to reboot occasionally to regain function gives me flashbacks to my old WinMo days.

I almost forgot. If you have issues with sound, instead of rebooting, trying plugging in a headset in the headset jack then remove it. See if that fixes your issues too.

I remember having to do that once to fix a crackling sound when I installed Vegan.

-Tried the headset fix early on, didn't work.
-Tried clemsyns 9, no wifi.
-Tried pershoots, audio issue still exists

I flashed to stock this morning and am trying to recreate the issue. I have little doubt that I will, but there's still hope. Then I have to decide if I contact woot and send it back, contact viewsonic and see what they can do or live with it.

So does that mean that clemsyns kernel fixed the audio but broke the wifi? If so then at least we know its a software issue rather than a hardware issue.

I don't have issue with wifi connecting with clemsyns newest kernel. I'm sure you did it but did you clear davlik cache after installing his new kernel?

It's definitely hardware! I've decided to flash back to stock (again) and call Viewsonic. I'm assuming I'll end up with a refurb. My kids already love this thing, so I don't want to give up on it just yet.

Update-

Viewsonic's repair line which is another company entirely said that repairs take at least 20 business days and are done in Guatemala! A month or more? Unacceptable! The rep I spoke to was great, but if this is how Viewsonic treats its customers, I will avoid them in the future. I only contacted them because the woot page said to. I contacted Woot via email and they're swapping the unit out, I shipped it off this morning. I'm guessing it will be a week or two till I get the replacement. My kids aren't happy about that.

I have the same problem with my woot tablet and will be getting a replacement delivered today. Haven't flashed the defective one back to stock yet - I was so happy that I managed to flash VEGAn without any hiccups and other than the sound problem it worked very nice.

What did you do to get it back to stock? Just flash the 3588 version you can get over at xda (and did that get rid of CWM) or did you do nvflash? I'm afraid if I go the nvflash route I mess something up - very new to this flashing roms thing....

Let's hope our new tablets work perfectly!

Thanks

Good luck with the new one!

1- get the 3588 file here- GTab recovery firmware (homebrew and official Viewsonic versions) - xda-developers
2- unzip to internal storage (should be a recovery directory and a update.zip file)
3- boot to recovery and install from update.zip
4- after install and BEFORE you reboot, do a data wipe AND partition the storage (2048, 0).

This will leave the unit with a clean tapntap install and no trace of your data upon reboot. Box 'er up and ship 'er out!

Any luck with the new unit? Having the same issue (probably the same Woot! shipment too), and currently running Vegan with Clemsyn's kernal v9. Driving me nuts!

My replacement is much better, but I still gets the occasional burst of static and has lost audio once in 3 weeks. It's not bad enough that I want to play swap out roulette again or give up owning the gTablet altogether.

We replaced our A/V receiver yesterday and the new one (Yamaha) only provides a owners manual on pdf. Using the tablet along with with repligo was the best "RTFM" experience I've ever had.

The replacement works fine, no audio issues at all. I'm glad I sent it back.

Thanks for the update, it's good to know there's some hope, even if it does involve a RMA.

So are you still on stock, or back on Vegan (or something else)? If Vegan, what kernal?

I left it on stock a little longer this time to check if the sound was ok - I think I didn't play with the first one long enough to find out about the audio issue before I flashed a different rom.

Now I'm back on Vegan 5.1.1., no kernel change. Other than an annoying random reboot issue, it's working fine.

The RMA process was pretty painless too. Had the new tablet within a few days, much faster than the original shipping.
