I know that it has been mentioned, but this data dropping is annoying and I don't understand. I used the Razr non stop this morning for about 3 hours without issue. Then it started up again. Is everyone not seeing this? Do I need to exchange? I checked out the Rezound this morning and man it was a brick compared to the Razr.

Love the Razr, but this is a huge flaw.

Nope don't exchange it....My Droid is having 3G to 1x to no data issues since last night. Razr is bouncing around from 4G to 3G since last night as well. .

Rezound is like a beached whale compared to the RAZR. Nice phone but not my cup of tea

I am also missing calls. I have google voice setup for my voicemail and I am not sure if its causing it, but some of my calls go straight to voicemail.

Anyone else?

I don't use Google Voice but I hear this complaint over and over again.

BTW, 4G has been steady for me this past hour and a half

Same issues. Great for a while, and then it goes away, but does usually come back. Doesn't seem as bad as the bionic that I had for a week though. And reception is much better.

I know I've missed one call, don't use google voice for calling.

fwiw, my htc Incredible had a data issue like that before getting fixed by a software update.

Yeah, I just signed up for Verizon's Visual Voicemail and removed google voice. Unfortunately it would still send a call here and there to voicemail, without reason. I don't understand.

I love this phone but it has to work. I hate to say this but my iPhone at least worked. I want android for customization and lte, but dropping data and missing calls is a no go. I run a business and this unacceptable.

When I went to Verizon this morning, a rep said it's just software they will release a fix for it. I said do you mean like one for the Bionic. I installed the leaked update and it did not fix it. He just looked at me puzzled.

I understand Shadrap. Go into Verizon and have them swap out your sim card. Actually you do it and DON't touch the gold contacts.

I decided to test drive the rezound. I will let you guys know how it goes. Not going to bash anything. I love the Razr, but i got to figure out if this issue is phone specific or 4g in general. As of right now I am sure of one thing the Razr is quicker.

Is that a fix for this issue? Don't understand.

Some people have had success by doing so yes. If you are in a good coverage area you shouldn't be dropping data on the RAZR. Some people pop in the sim and get grease all over the gold contacts and jack the sim card up.

I live in L.A with great coverage. I haven't dropped data yet. Moving from 4G > 3G > 4G yes, but no dropping data

I can confirm that the Rezound also drops data. Though, it is a lot quicker at picking it back up. Think seconds vs minutes. So, after 3 LTE handsets - Bionic, Razr, and Rezound. I am starting to come to the conclusion that it is in fact an LTE thing. Maybe Verizon'z LTE is not up to it or the Radios aren't made for what is expected. I don't know. All three also send calls to voicemail without a noticeable reason.

Trying really hard to stick with android for freedom and lte. But at what cost?

The weird thing is they are doing in 3G only areas. In fact, it is worse in these areas. I don't know what it is, but I believe for the most part it is across the board. I hope they figure it out.

i live in nyc which has great 4g coverage and i haven't noticed any data drops or frequent 1X/3G/4G switching...but now you guys have me paranoid about incoming calls not actually coming in. can someone please elaborate on this?

I noticed this morning when my Razr did this. But my house area isn't exactly 4G friendly. It dropped to 3G and dropped to no data and flickered back on and it stopped.
I only noticed because I was about to head out and wanted to use my Viper SmartStart to start my car and it didn't work because of no data connectivity

If you have another phone available call your phone a few times. For example I would call my phone about 10 times. Mine would not go through 100% sometimes as low as 50%.

my cell is my only phone. i won't have another phone available until i'm in the office tomorrow but i'm doing this and if every single call doesn't go through, this phone is getting returned immediately. what a shame. now i'm really bummed out.

I own a business, that is why I noticed it. I would be driving and all of a sudden get a voicemail. The phone wouldn't ring or show that a call came through. It just sent them to voicemail.

that was my next question - if they can still leave a voicemail, and does the voicemail show up on your phone.

i'm no expert but it sounds like a loss of signal. i'm gonna run some tests from my office and from a co-workers cell also first thing tomorrow morning. i'll report back.

Yes, voicemails come through, but can be delayed. I am sitting here watching the Rezound fluctuate now. Razr definetly would hold better signal. But the length of drop is worse on the Razr.

Just returned my RAZR because of this. The calls wouldn't even show up in my missed calls. The voice mails that people left would come through and show on the notifications. In fact in at least one case it beeped immediately at me that there was voice mail (but no ringing and no indication of a missed call... just voice mail). When it missed calls the numbers would not show in the recent numbers listing in the phone app either. I did not get a replacement as I have no idea what was causing it and, as I at least need to know that I missed a call, it was an unacceptable situation.

That's starting to sound less like a handset issue and more like a cell tower issue. The odds of three different model handsets experiencing the exact same symptom is likely not very good. Now if the three different model handsets are all accessing the same cell towers then that leads me to think that's where the problem may be..

Maybe go into the call settings and set the phone to 3G only for a day to see if the symptom persists? What's odd is that the 4G and telephone chips in your phone are different. I'm not sure why an issue in one would impact the other.

I have had the issue of some calls going directly to voicemail and not showing in my missed calls on several phones. Original Droid, Droid X and even my bionic. It doesn't happen often enough for me to worry about it. I agree that it is probably not a hardware issue as much as a signal issue caused by the towers in your area. I know that this has only happened to me at work and on long cross country trips. Always in the same areas.

Can the title of this thread be changed to something more meaningful? Some good info and theories here. Would be good to use this thread to track this issue.

Definitely seems to pop up in the same parts of town for me, while other areas are solid. And happens fairly often driving around town vs being stationary.

Could it be that towers are not handing off properly? I'm likely in an area pretty close to 3g only towers. I could be stuck between 3g and 4g towers when this happens and driving between them too?

Keep in mind I have no idea what I'm talking about!

Yeah, I can see why you would think that. But the Razr was taken on a 400 mile round trip on the East Coast over the weekend and it was doing the data drop. All three exhibit the same behavior. They will run for a while and everything is fine. On the Moto's the bars will turn white and no 3g or LTE symbol is present. The Rezound just drops the symbol.

I am not sure what it is. I just know that if I web browse or use the mobile hotspot on any of the phones for an extended period of time the data drops. I live in a 3g area. My wife has an iPhone 4 and never drops data at our home.
