Help Set Search Engine Issue

I have my homepage set to Google and when I load the phones internet stock browser that page opens, but my question is when I have that open and then go to Menu then advanced I then see an option to change the search engine, but if I click on any of the others such as Yahoo or Bing or Ask Jeeves then close the stock browser and open it again it's the Google homepage that appears.

Is there anything else I am required to do as changing the search engine in advanced doesn't seem to do anything on my phone.

Google is your home page, Bing is your search engine.. The browser opens to Google. If you put a search term into the address box (where you'd normally type the URL of the site you want), it should use Bing as the search engine. (There's limited real estate on a phone, so the address box is also used as the search box.)

You are a star, this has been bugging me for ages, just tried it and hey presto it works like I treat!

I don't want to start another thread because this next question kind of relates to the stock browser too, and my question is normally when I go to my stock browser and open it goes directly to the homepage that I have set it for, but it doesn't open from the cache it opens up a new fresh page everytime, I know because of the indication bar the goes from left to right whereas if it was opening from cache it would open without refreshing.

When I went to the stock browser just then it opened up with the last page I had viewed instead of the main homepage and I am wondering why.

If I press the back button it just closes, so what I need to do when this happens is go to Menu and tap on open new window, then once that opens which will be the Google Home page I then bring down the window slightly so I can see the little box on the bar that tells me how many pages are open, once I tap on that the windows open small and I can then select which one to close by touching left to right or right to left, and then click on the red - to close that window, then tap on the remaining window to open the homepage then if I click the back button it then closes and will reopen on the homepage the next time I open the browser.

Is there anything I should be doing in order for not to have to do this from time to time? I am sure the phone stock browser used to open from it's homepage cache in the past but not recently.

Sorry for this long winded post but I thought that I needed to mention everything in order for you to know exactly what I am on about.

Any questions on anything please ask.

Thanks again for that first answer though. ;)

You'll never believe this but since I changed the search engine when I tap on the stock browser to open it now opens straight away from cache without reloading which wasn't occurring previously. This is how I wanted it anyway so I am even more happier now. :D

Instead of clicking the back option on phone I am now hitting the home button which keeps the stock internet browser in ram which effectively will open it without refreshing. Plenty RAM left so better using it as that is what its there for.

There's a setting on almost all phone browsers to tell it whether to open a new page when you open it or to open the last page you were on. There's also the trick of just using about:blank as the address of the page to open on, and it'll open on a blank page every time (if you don't always go to the same page when you open your browser - some people do, some don't).

Where is the setting to tell the browser not to open a new page as I have looked in settings while I have the stock browser open and cant see where I can set that option.
