Help "Set up software update" Notification

Jones197666

Newbie
Is anyone else getting this Software Update message? I updated to ICS and this keeps popping up and I try to just hit confirm and it doesn't work.
And how to get rid of it more importantly.

First make sure you have a data connection, through the carrier or Wi-Fi, then confirm the message.

@Jones197666
Did you update to ICS via an official update pushed to your phone or did you get an unofficial update?
Dial *#1234#
and post the results over here. It'll make it easier for us to solve the issue.

I had the same issue with the unofficial beta KPB update. It was a persistent notification that won't go away. But it's no longer the case with the official update.

There was both solid wifi and data connections.

The update was done via Odin. We most likely won't get an official release via Kies on Bell.

Which firmware version did you flash?
Dial *#1234# and post the results. alternatively go to system -> about phone and tell us the android version, baseband version, kernel version and build number.

That should tell us your version.

CSC: Unknown ??
Wow never saw that happen before. In my opinion if we flash a new CSC the notification should go away. Your PDA and modem are both latest and should not be causing this issue.
BTW where did you get this package from? Can you post a link to where you downloaded this from?

Canada Bell/Virgin BMCKG2 CSC

This is the only canada bell csc I could find for now, it maybe old but it should do the trick. Since you are familiar with Odin it should not be any trouble for you to flash this.

Hope it does the job, post your results.

Samfirmware always has the official releases only and I don't think that sammy came with an official update for Bell Canada. Post the exact link if you can. Anyways I hope that changing the CSC solves your issue.

Those have all been removed.

At the weekend I rolled my phone back to what I thought was the official VodaUK 2.3.5 build in prepqration for the ICS update planned today:
PDA: I9100BUKJ3
Phone: I9100BUKI1
CSC: I9100VODKI2

I woke up this morning and to my surprise had a Software Notification in my taskbar...I assume for ICS. However when I selected the notification I immediately got a FC window pop up. I was connected to WiFi with good signal strenth at the time.

Tried manually forcing an update via the "search for software updates" settings but the search comes back saying 'no updates' available.

Anyone else had that problem?

Will try Kies later to see if I can get it that way.

Well, couldn't get Kies to do the update.

Tried turning phone off/on, tried airplane mode to kick start the signal connection and tried the manual software update. None of those things worked.

Would love to hear if anyone is experiencing the same....or if I'm being a complete '**** and doing something wrong :)

Are you certain that the ICS update was pushed to other owners? Try to confirm with others. Since you had done a roll back, getting a notification is not surprising, but it might be just a false positive.

Many people have reported errors on the OTA updates, Kies should be the safer alternative at this point. Try it out and post back the results.

I've just had this on mine to after doing the ics update through Kies for my XEU phone.
All i did to get rid of it was go into settings-about-software update and clicked check for update, it came up with a confirmation page then said registering device and now the Update Notification has gone.

Yours seems lie it may be different tho.

delta0 confirmed this morning in this thread http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...cs-official-update-release-3.html#post4239362 that the Vodafone update was available, unfortunately the guys at work with GS2s are on other networks so I've been unable to confirm with them.

I did get a couple of niff-naff updates (MMS I think) almost immediately after I rolled back to 2.3.5 and then the 'Software Update' notification this morning...perhaps just a coincidence that it could've been ICS?

Main reason for posting in the first place was that I had the force close when trying to do the OTA for this software update notification and not being able to get the update to re-appear.

Having unsuccessfully tried updating via Kies this morning I've had another go but now faced with Kies telling me that my device does not support upgrade via Kies....not something it said this morning! I followed advice from other threads and the xda-developers site and thought I reverted back to a correct official build (the other option was an earlier build, 2.3.3 Vodafone UK build I think, but all the links on sammobile.com or xda for this are dead so was forced to go with 2.3.5).

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.

@gooner rich
Do you want the official ICS update for your phone? Or do you want the official GB firmware for your phone?

Just post you region and carrier i shall search for the relevant files that you can flash via Odin.
PDA: I9100BUKJ3
Phone: I9100BUKI1
CSC: I9100VODKI2

Is this your current phone info??

Did the CSC flash with the links you reposted, didn't work. The CSC is still listed as unknown. I guess I'll just live with the constant update notification.

Thanks anyway!

@ Forbidden 403
Thanks mate, yes that is the current build of my phone. Im on Vodafone UK. Not had a chance yet of finding the ICS firmware to flash and still not figured out why Kies is now saying I've the incorrect build to update. Any help would be appreciated.

Only just got round to doing this. Thanks for all the help. Downloaded from your link and then flashed via Odin and everything seems good :)

Nice one.

The email and contacts have all changed...might take a bit of time to get used to that!

@gooner rich
No problems, it should not be too difficult to find. Am in the office now, will post the links at night after a proper search.

So I have an update. I flashed with the official update for Bell Canada last night (from samfirmware.com). I went through the "accept terms" deal with the software update and it recognized it and the notification went away.
