Help Set WiFi network as no updates

I bought a Nexus 7 two weeks ago. Very happy with it.

I've been tethering it to my phone when I'm away from home and I'm on the road a lot. Trying to find a way to stop it from updating when it's connected to my phones Wi-Fi hotspot. I know a lot of apps have 'only on Wi-Fi' settings and ideally marking the connection as data would be the best, other than that I can manually turn off play store and sync each time I'm not on another Wi-Fi network, but I have apps like dropsync that can burn through data, I don't want to have to goto each program every time I leave home and want to check my email.

I haven't found any apps on the store and Google results aren't helping.

Any suggestions?

Only thing I could think of, might be using something like Tasker to try to limit data while connected to that point. But I haven't used it, not sure how effective it can be for it (though I'm sure it's probably configurable enough to do so). The trick would be letting it stay connected and not disabling data altogether (otherwise, what's the point of being connected to start with?), but still limiting certain apps from accessing it. Hopefully a better expert can help with suggestions :)

If you're talking about auto updating apps just shut off the auto update in the play store settings.

Also, it is annoying that the *new* Play Store repeatedly prompts asking for permission to update apps automatically with Wi-Fi. I've responded "No" many times already so please take the hint Goog. I don't plan to auto-update all apps, ever since I like to read the recent reviews and see if the update kills features or has problems.

It would be easy to click the wrong button giving the permission to auto-update. Your tip on how to change this in Play Store settings {button with 3 dots} is a good one. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a setting for it to stop asking...
