Root SetCPU Alternatives

Since I received my rooted merit badge I've been using SetCPU.
Initially, the profiles I created seemed to work but the past couple of days I've notice that the Screen Off CPU 122 max - min, Priority: 97 is not kicking in, which causes battery drain as my default ondemand profile is 480-122.
Seemed to work, meaning that I could see that the Icon was indicating that my Screen Off profile was working and it would change to my default as I wake the screen.

Could someone recommend an alternative to SetCPU as it seems that this app is a serious battery killer.

P.S. I've read that the kernel in my phone doesn't support over clocking, which is fine but does it already throttle the CPU like the ondemand profiles I saw in SetCPU?
