SetCPU on the S3 - Useful or useless?

Is SetCPU really useful on the S3? Or is the phone doing a good job at throttling on it's own? It made a big difference on my old Evo. But I'm thinking the S3 is probably a lot smarter.

The kernel already uses hotplug logic to turn off cores when not needed.


Besides, throttling the CPU is pointless. It drops low when in standby and not needed. Setting a low max mhz just makes intensive things run longer.

The question is no "why wouldn't I?" Rather, its "why would you want to?"

So you're saying the S3 by default already can shut down extra cores and drops CPU speed when idle?

The CPU is always running at the lowest it can and it goes into "Sleep" when it's idle.
