Setting apps to "sleep mode"

I end up coming here every time I try to Google something Android related, so I guess this is the best place to ask this question.

Is there a way to set apps, specifically the Gmail app, to not notify during certain hours? I keep my phone nearby at night so I can use it as an alarm clock, but I really don't want to hear the notification sound every time I get an email.

The Gmail app doesn't have a feature like this. But you could use an app like Tasker to enable/disable autosync at certain times of day.

Some other email apps have this functionality. My stock email client on HTC Sense can be configured to not check for email during certain times.

Yeah, Quiet Sleep is pretty useful for this. It can be configured to whatever hours/days you'd like. It's on the google market or play page. Pretty useful.

I like the gmail app, so I'll look into one of those other apps. I'm still pretty new to this whole android thing. It's a little more complex than my old slider phone :p
Thanks for the help!

I use timmerific as I too use my mobile as an alarm and was so annoyed at being woken up at 4am with an email notification!

With Timmerific you can set your phone to go on silent and come back on at certain times (of course alarm wirks when it is in silent).

Wouldnt be without it now :)

Mine is also an alarm clock at night, some of the time anyway. If used that way it goes into 'airplane mode'. Problem solved!

In case anyone was wondering, Timeriffic is the app that I went with. It has settings for setting sounds and vibration on or off according to a set schedule. Best of all, it's free! Again, thanks!
