Setting USB debugging mode on N7

I was trying to set USB debugging mode. I followed these instructions:

Menu
button, then Settings item, then Applications item, then Development item, then check USB debugging mode
In Settings I did not find Applications but only Apps and there was no Development item. So I could not get any fursther. What am I missing.

Note that I own the N7 only since a couple of days and have no Android background.

Are you on android 4.2 or 4.1? Theres a big difference as far as where the USB debugging is located

Are you needing this for rooting? If so I'll move you to the all things root section

Hi there. As you may remember I expected the wife to wrap the N7 under the christmas tree. But I convinced her that this was not a good idea because of the 30 days return policy. So here I am struggling with the device.

And yes, eventually I will need it to root. But not yet. Right now I just want to allow ADB mode.

And I am not sure what level Android I am. Where do I look. I got a couple of updates yesterday and today. Maybe that was 4.2.

And thanks for your continued support. I really need it.

Update: It is just now installing 4.2. - and in 'About Build' it now says 4.2.1

Ah yes I remember you now :) Hard to keep track of everyone.

Once you get on 4.2 the directions above will enable the developer options for you.

Once you get that done, if you need help setting your Nexus 7 set up with Eclipse, follow my post on this thread:

He shouldnt need anything more than wugs nexus toolkit for rooting. Eclipse is more of a developer tool

Go to settings, then About tablet. Tap on Build Number a few times. A message will appear saying something about being a developer. After a few taps go back to settings, Developer options should be above About tablet.

Thanks, that seems to work. It now says:" Debug mode when USB is connected". I seem to be making headway.
