SG2 help please!! Problem with sd and apps missing

Hi all,
New here so I apologise If this has been posted before. I havent found anything.
So today, phone had a tantrum and then most of my apps installed on sd card have gone grey and the default android guy is in place instead.
If u press them, it says app not installed on phone.
Cannot move any apps to sd card, cannot download anything.

Unmounted sd card many times and then some apps returned, so I tried again and they vanished.
Some apps not coming back at all.
Have performed full virus scan, comes up clear.
I really dont know what to do, please can anyone advise. Thank you.

what were you doing right before the drama began? that is the type info that might help. so think on it.

could be bad sd card. could be bad phone. try re installing one of the broke apps

Sounds like the SD card may be going bad.

As a precaution, you should copy the entire contents of your SD card to a folder on your PC (presuming, of course, you have one -- I've known some people to do all their computer stuff on phones and tablets only. Crazy, I know.)

If the card does die, then you should be able to copy everything back onto a replacement card, pop it in the S2, and everything should be fine.

Thanks guys, I suspect its sd card too, but it was bought in jan.
I had just reached level 11 on alien hive and then it flipped out.i think its got its own mind, its a control freak, certainly controls me. But on a serious note.
I have tried reinstalling, problem is, low internal space and sd card wont allow access.this is frustrating

I've had SD cards that spontaneously fail after months of working before, too. Been in your exact position, too, my apps where dissappering because my card was failing to mount. Solved it by getting a new card and putting a backup of what data I had on the card.

Do whatever you can to get that data off the card, pronto -- either by plugging in your phone to the computer and activating mass storage mode (or MTP mode if it does it that way), or plugging the SD card directly into a USB card reader. In particular, folders like "android_secure" and ".android". That's where Android stores the parts of the apps it moves to the card.

Won't allow access? From the phone, or from a PC?

Don't stress out too much about reinstalling -- if you can replace your SD card AND pull the data off the old card, you won't need to reinstall the apps. When you let android move an app to the SD card, it moves the bulk of it to the SD, and puts a bunch of pointers/symlinks in the phone storage. The pointers are still good and registered as "installed" to the OS, its just that the media they are pointing to isn't being seen.

Once you get that data onto a new card, the links will resolve and everything should be back to normal, no reinstalling necessary.

Well it suddenly started working again, was not with my laptop and it was late at night here, next minute, , I get sd card blank...... Everyth gone. Had photos backed up.reinstalled some games, all progress lost. Reinstalled mp3 player(which was saved to sd) and the music is still there..
Have taken sd card out as phone was getting soooo hot!!
Im now wondering If I should buy a new sd.
Reading in the net, it seems its a common problem and cnet have an article saying its due to samsung units, but there is a mixed opinion. Very confused.....

Wont allow access on laptop, about to head out to the local tech shop again, but they were confused on friday too.maybe I can find someone and try the card in their phone

What brand of SD card do you have? I had a SanDisk 32 GB card that would do this frequently. It seems to be a common problem for their SD cards. Would recommend going with another brand.

Its also a SanDisc 16GB.
Thats what im thinking after what I have read.feel quite diIsillusioned about the whole thing. It seems as though everyone is replacing discs every 6 months or so and they are so expensive! Is there a brand you can reccomend that has a better longevity perhaps
