SG3 heat question

Manse

Newbie
Been trying to ask this question a bit in other threads, but havent really had any response yet, so im just gonna try this way instead :)

I have had my SG3 for 4-5 days now, i love the thing but was just wondering about one thing, it does seem to get decently warm when i use it.

When i load up a game and run it for a while i gets quite warm, but i guess thats to be expected since its not exactly tetris its running, but when im sitting in the train on my way to work, just browsing the web, it also tends to get warm, thought it might have something to do with the fact that it drops and reconnects to 3G all the time, not sure if that can generate heat.

So was just wondering about other peoples experiences, this is my first android phone, and my first new phone in quite a while, so it might just be me overreacting ;)

I have actually had several phones now that have gotten quite warm when I use them. I used to worry about it, but I don't anymore since they have never caused a problem while they were warm. I am thinking that if they get too warm, they would probably shut off, since you don't hear about too many hot phone accidents. If you feel that it needs to be shut down to cool off, I guess that couldn't hurt.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it :) They all go warm. If you have 4 cores working hard without cooler it have to go warm.
And it's good for winter time.

Mine tends to get warm when I use 3G or wifi a lot with streaming media apps and on a few heavy games. But it's no worse than my old iPhone.

Basically if you give it some heavy use it's going to warm up.

Every smartphone I've owned gets warm to hot when being used a lot. I even owned an iPhone 4s or a few months before selling it, and that got warm too from use.

Anybody have a Raxr or Rezound? Those two get HOT using LTE and playing Flash at same time. A combo of inefficient chipsets.

I would expect the SG3 and its more efficient 28nm chipset to not get as hot as those.

Every phone I've had has gotten warm when doing processor heavy tasks. Not a huge concern. But I had an Inc2 that got so hot, often just sitting in my pocket, that it would shut it's self down! The record temp I was able to see before it happened was 115.0F! Not good. After ruling out a bad battery as the cause, VZW replaced it for me. So far, no problems with this one.

Actually read in the manial while looking for something else, that it can generate heat but its nothing to worry about. Just feel like its a bit odd when its not the most load heavy of things im doing.

Kinda hard to tell if that is a hoax or not, but mine most def does not get that hot :)

edit:
"Samsung have contacted me, the head of customer services came out to see me and gave me a replacement phone.

There is no confirmation that it was a fault with the phone. It may actually have been caused by a combination of my car mount and my cars heating system.

Just delighted to have my Galaxy back"

Just to measure things out i installed a voltage / temp graph, ran n.o.v.a 3 for about 15 mins and the phone peaked at 41 celsius or 105 fahrenheit, on a hot day like today it sure does warm up your hands a bit.

Mine gets pretty warm when playing graphics heavy games like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and N.O.V.A. 4. I actually had a pop-up come up while playing saying 'lowering brightness to prevent overheating' so the phone seems to have it under control :)

I think it's just normal. I even read the news about overheat of Galaxy s3, but it's just one of the unlucky case like other cell phones have started fire. I had so many samsung phones, and they used to get heated very much especially when it's being charged. The area around the charging port was so hot that I dropped my phone, but I've never had problem with the phone itself. It's something that you don't have to worry, I think.

The Razr gets to 50c with similar apps and conditions, so 41 is doing good pushing a larger and higher res display, plus higher clock.

Doing great, actually.

Just took my sg3 in to have it checked, i guess you can call it that, the heat it produces is starting to bother me, just sitting on the train with the phone in my pocket, i could feel it randomly starting to get warm, to the point where i had to take it out because it was starting to get uncomfortable. Even just checking the web or calling someone would be it heat/warm up. I can understand that it gets warm when you play something with intense graphics or something like that, but not just for general use, i mean the phone would be warm/hot almost every time i used it.

Since maybe more have gotten a S3 by now, any other people with experiences regarding the heat the phone produces? anyone done some testing on how hot theirs get?

Im not worried about the phone breaking because of it, but i dont really feel that its acceptable to make a phone that is uncomfortable to use.

Im sure those complaining are telling the truth but me, I can talk for an hour or play for an hour and the phone doesnt get hot. (NA version). Maybe its the Quand core ?

I was a bit concerned that it gets warmer than my GS2 i9100 did when browsing and playing games but since I'm not the only one I'm ok with it...

The first day when I attempted to recharge it, a red light came on with a message on-screen stating that recharging was suspended due to battery over-heating. This problem hasn't recurred though.

Its normal usually it just warm. But the way you hold the phone sometimes makes a little hotter because there's almost no heat release and the heat of your palm

Has anyone actually *measured* the temperature at various spots on the phone with a an Infrared Thermometer?

Takes the subjectivity out of it :)
