SG3 heat question

Have only used software and im guessing that just measures the battery temp, sadly dont really have any hardware to measure with :)

Had the phone checked out, got it back a few days ago with a note saying that galaxy phones just get hot when used, im still a little disappointed with the way this phone generates heat.

Im in no way worred that the phone is gonna break down, but it just seems like a design flaw, the phone do get uncomfortable to hold when it gets stressed a bit, playing games, running 3g for some reason aswell.

When im sitting on the train in the morning heading for work, i normally have to disable 3g / mobile data, the phone just heats up and it gets rather unpleasant to have in my pocket.

Took a small screenshot on the phone to show how hot mine gets, this was taken while browsing the web via 3g on the train.

Anyone else wanna share their experience regarding the phone so far?

That is pretty hot, I don't think mine has gotten that hot unless I was running GPS with a charger on a warm day or playing some of the more graphics-intensive games. And I have a case on mine.

What's the temperature when it's near idle? Is there good reception on the train? tunnels? If it's looking for signal repeatedly with 100% screen brightness, I can imagine it getting pretty toasty.

Guess i should try one of those, never heard of them tho, then again, this is my first android phone.

The reception on the train varies, so yeah i have thought about the fact that i might be due to the phone trying to reconnect to 3g over and over. I dont have the screen at 100% brightness, not pretty far of tho.

Idle temps are around 29-31, wich is just fine, phone is nice and cool then, max opserved temp is around 48 while trying out nova 3, game with pretty heavy graphics.

What kinda otterbox are you using, guessing the commuter or something like that? actually did think about getting a case, as i mentioned im not worried that the phone is overheating, i guess im just quite sensitive when it comes to how warm it gets, starts bugging me when im holding the phone for a period of time, so getting a case might help with that, since im guessing it gives a layer of protection from touching the bottom part of the phone (the part that actually heats up).

I do not know if the quad version is the same, but a few events do trigger heat spikes:

1. Using GPS beyond about 15 minutes. ALL phones get toasty using GPS, so not a surprise. The key though is the SG3 does not appear to run a net negative for charging and using GPS at same time. Some devices do run a negative.

2. I notice that sometimes the signal will show strong dBm signal, but the download speed is slow. In this contradicting scenario, the device gets hot. Seems to happen with 3G and not 4G.

3. In low signal areas the device runs warmer, but not hot like the Razr did. 3G or 4G, the Razr gets frickn' hot.

The nice thing with the GS3 is it does not seem to get hot when using 4G. Especially since the ICS update, the Razr gets crazy hot.

Mine is genrally fine, however it got pretty hot last night while struggling to get service. I am rarely without service, but I was at a wine tasting last night in a pretty remote area. Service went from 4G to 1X. I was trying to send a message out through facebook and it wasn't having it. The phone got very hot and battery dropped very quick.

Yeah, everything is relative, since the Razr was the hottest running device I owned- especially after the ICS and kernel update. The GS3 does spike to around there though in items 1 & 2 that I noted above.

GS3 at least SPIKES hot, but the Razr appears to run hot almost on a normal basis when actually using the device radios.
