SGN 10.1 or iPad3?

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum, and have been reading most of today. Great information here!!!

I just recently sold my original iPad and am contemplating an SGN 10.1 as its replacement.

With that, I am very familiar with the iPad world, but would like to get some honest feedback from those of you whom have made a similar move?

Are you glad you switched?
Is there anything on the SGN 10.1 that you don't like?
Any additional feedback?

I said to the bloke in the electronics store that if an iPad came with a stylus, then I wouldn't be inquiring about the SGN.... However, several work colleagues have the SGN's and love 'em.

Thanks in advance!

I have had my SGN for about a month and a half now and i could not be happier with it. I am a student in college right now and the S-Pen is like a gift from heaven. I take all my notes on the tablet. It is very, very nice. The battery life is also very nice. Easily gets me through the day. When i bought the tablet it came with ICS but i quickly installed Jelly Bean and it is great. Just as fast as an Ipad with the benefits of android.

Trust me if you buy it you will not be disappointed.

I would say it depends on your intended use.

I had a 1st Gen iPad, and then a Galaxy Tab (wanted to switch out to Android) but neither really fulfilled my needs. I really wanted something I could write on, and no combination of stylii and/or apps gave me what I needed. I happened upon the Note in Best Buy one day and after 5 minutes of playing around in S note, I was sold. I can truly be productive with this device. I sold my iPad and my G-Tab and have never regretted the decision for a second. As dportal says, it's all about the stylus.

If you are primarily interested in playing games, watching video, or doing other consumption-related activities, there are plenty of good, solid tablet options available, including this Note. But if you want to get work done, I HIGHLY recommend this. The multi-tasking capabilities, the ability to easily write on the tablet (and have your handwriting either preserved or converted to text), the ability to access Flash content...all make this a superior device IMO. Some may talk about the "poor" screen resolution but in a device of this size I challenge all but the most hard-core pixel-peepers to truly see a difference.

One caveat - you can't store applications on an SD cards (only files) without rooting the device. If rooting is not your cup of tea, you may want to consider the 32GB model vs. the 16 if you have lots of apps you are planning to install.

If I want to be picky and identify things I *don't* like, it's that the Android world in general is so flexible that configuring apps, changing settings, etc., is not always intuitive (for me, anyway). As an example, sometimes you make a change in the master settings for your device, sometimes through the app, sometimes through an icon that looks like a cog, another time through an icon that looks like a wrench, etc. Thankfully, the folks on this forum are helpful and I've always gotten my questions sorted out. Also, there are fewer accessories (docks, cases, etc.) for the Note than you are likely to find with an iPad, if that is an issue for you.

Good luck with your decision. I can't imagine how you might be disappointed unless there are some special iPad apps that haven't yet made their way over to the Play store in android version.

I have both the Galaxy 10.1 note and iPad2&4 but if I just wanted one I would pick the Galaxy 10.1 note. It has a great bright screen and does a great job with the Internet and the price is a lot better then the iPads. also the Galaxy OS give you a lot more freedom of choices. And the micro memory card slot really allows you to store a lot of things, where the iPad has no micro memory slot and you must use the cloud or other online servers to store stuff. Now the iPads are nice tablets and are very useful if you can afford both it's a no problem. Hope this helps.

Update 02/14/2014 Just bought the new Samsung Tab Pro, and i am really impressed with it's speed and quality of build. Unless you really need the hand writing of the note look at this new tablet, i use the message pad and type so i don't miss the note. There is also a larger 10.1 if size is important to you.

The GN10.1 is the only reason I did not get an ipad. I was about 30 seconds away from buying a I4 because of all the substandard android devices available to locally buy, I returned the TF700 because it was so sloppy compared to the Apple. Then I tried the GN10 and it worked as smoothly as the I4 but has all the available Android goodies.

If you don't want to have to think but have a nice quality and reliable tablet get the iFruit, if you jailbrake your apple anyway or if you want to do far more customization without voiding your warranty go with the GN.

I use mine for work, and it does something very basic that I could not get the apple to do. Use it as a BASIC note book. Snote and Write are amazing for that.

Mine is also used heavily for work. Lots of spreadsheet work, working with pdf files and general documentation. Wonderful device and nicely compliments the Note 2

I switched from an ipad 2 to the Note 10.1 and never looked back. Although I loved the ipad, I found that it restricted me from doing a lot of productivity stuff. I am able to do so much more with this device just by having a micro sd card option. You have the ability to view more video formats unlike the ipad, and the s pen is a great tool to use. I take all my notes on it. Gaming is fun as well...no regrets here, and my DD is also happy to get my ipad

This was a nice discussion which i'm currently facing.
I've never used ipad in the past because i knew that what i expect from a tablet-efficient handwriting and note taking- wasn't a part of it. I bought SNG 10.1 and it was haeven for a year, now i'm facing memory problems which i asked in a different thread. After that i've bought a 1st gen ipad to try new apps and stylus but it turned out complete fiasco.
note 10.1 is way more better then ipad considering note taking capabilities.
But, only if i solve that problem..

Note taking, pdf reading, internet

If you intend to use the spen at all for note taking like I do then it will change your life I swear I need to write a review on my note explaining HOW it changed my life. PDF reading and internet blah any ol tablet can do that. IPad, nexus, Windows, blackberry even had one to. Those basic things don't give out anything that makes devices easy to recommend. Sort. But the s pen, if you want to take notes, even use for school, this is the tablet for you. And their pretty cheap now. I got mine about 6 months ago 4 mostly but who's counting and it was 250

I could not get the ipad to update items on my wife's web site,no matter what we tried, then a friend was showing me his SGN, I asked him if he could add some items to the w'site
which he did without any trouble, needless to say, my wife now uses a SGN 10.1 and the ipad has been sold, mashed apple or android freedom the choice is your's, but not a difficult one!.....
