Help SGS 3G connectivity issues post-Gingerbread update

When I was on Froyo, 3G connectivity was fine. Now, it seems throughout the day, my phone will just stop connecting to 3G for no reason whatsoever. Only way of reconnecting is to turn the phone off and on again.

I'm on O2, anyone else having problems?

I use a widget to turn phone data and wifi on or off. On 2.2 when wifi was on the 3g was off in the widget and on the top bar. Since gingerbread the 3g is of on the top bar but still on on the widget button. I just started switchin 3g off when wifi is on and my battery lasts about 5 times as long when I am not using the phone. Something is obviously different with 3g and my phone on gingerbread. I am in a strong signal are so its not that.

I'm starting to get really irritated by this. Both the default APN settings and the tweak suggested by the O2 user in the link above don't give me a reliable connection and still I'm having trouble with my 3G.

Here's a screencap of how the little data icon spends most of it's time unless I restart my device:

This is a known issue with Orange branded galaxy s phones after the incorrect gingerbread or shall i say unfinished update was releasee via kies! I guess its the same with o2 aswell.

Have seen this reported else where.

Got to add though my Orange SGS has been on the questionable 2.3 and I've not had any problems with 3G connectivity other that initially when it refused to connect after the update a restart solved that one.

Since then I have done a factory reset and can't say I've any real issue with the 2.3 release.

I've had a similar problem when I updated my girlfriends phone. Updated by keis to 2.3.3, since then there's no data connection. Shortcut from the drop down bar doesn't even register that it's being pressed. Also the option in settings/wirelessandnetworks to switch on mobile network is no longer there. I've had the APN settings sent from orange but nothing they suggest works (which doesn't surprise me).

Sounds like an incomplete update to me but if anyone has any ideas before I revert to 2.2.1 then I'd be glad to give them a try. Or I may just buy her a HTC instead. :D
