Help SGS2 in call volume too quiet

Hi,
I know this has been raised before but my question is slightly different. I'm a bit of a noobie but hapy to follow instructions!
I've had this problem from the beginning on Gingerbread and now on ICS 4.0.3 and using the service mode is a problem; it doesn't respond to the "5" selection, just refreshes the main menu screen. What I want to know is whether reverting to a stock ROM will have any effect on this as I don't want to do it unless there is a good chance of solving this problem. I have rooted my phone.
Thanks in anticipation
Steve

Since you mention, "I've had this problem from the beginning on Gingerbread and now on ICS 4.0.3", it could indicate a hardware problem.

If, whilst you are in a call to, say, voice mail, can you select... Menu > Noise reduction off and does this help?

If so, there are a number of custom ROM's that have this either built-in or as a mod. See the, "All Things Root", section of the forum.

If not, it may well be a hardware fault which you could possibly have repaired under warranty if you revert your phone to it's original, un-rooted, firmware and reset the flash counter.

This is the only thing I've come across. I can't vouch for it, but there's no harm in trying.
It doesnt work for me, but these things are invariably ROM specific, so its worth a shot for you.
