Help SGS2 in Egypt

Hebz

Newbie
Hey guys,

I have a few questions:).I'm sorry cause I have a Blackberry and an now iphone background so I have no idea about android excpet for the few reviews and videos I recently checked but anyway I'm not that big on technicalities and terminiology  (so forgive me If my questions are too dumb:) I'm seriously considering getting an unlocked Samsung gs2 from amazon but I live in Egypt sooo:

1) carriers in Egypt support 3g ,so will the internet speed (due to the dual core) be that fast as I saw on the review videos of the SGS2?

2) Are the Android applications on the market for free?,like the major ones (but not games) cause I heard there are thousands of apps free,is that true?

3) Do I only have to have a gmail, can't I have a yahoo or whatever other mail aside?

That's all thnxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:):):)

1 - ur speed will depend on how good ur 3G signal is. if u have a strong signal, and u have support for HSDPA (faster than 3G) then ur speeds should be great. and i rarely get the speeds that the 3G standards state, so dont expect too fast speeds.. but it should be perfectly acceptable speeds for web browsing. im sure u wouldve used 3G for iphone, it should be the same speeds..

EDIT: i just saw that u mentioned dual core. no, ur processor speed has nothing to do with ur internet speed, so im afraid the internet speed will be pretty much the same as ur iphone or blackberry

2 - some market apps are free, some are not. most have a free version, which is exactly the same as the paid version, but include advertisements in the app. some apps have such annoying ads that it makes people just pay to get rid of them. lol. but yeah, u get a LOT of great free apps on the market, its the best place to search for apps

3 - oh no, u can have any email account u want. however, its great if u have a google account, as it will sync all ur contacts directly from ur gmail contact list, and keep it synced.. calendar, tasks, gmail of course.. and it even has a backup of ur phone settings and apps. but ur email app can add any other account for email

sorry but one more question plzZZZ, do u have or know someone who has hands on experience with SGS2 that could tell whether it has all what the major points that I need in a phone or not, basically big screen(like iphone and bigger)+great camera (cause I no longer want to carry around my camera)+ front camera(for s skyping)+ super memory (cause I don't want to constantly transfer the huge amount of photos the I take to my laptop+ space for my music)+ chatting options(whatsapp ,fb ....)

The big annoying question is "Should I get the SGS2 or should I wait for the iphone 5 which is Supposedly going to be released in sept and for its unlocking:( too(extra time) ?thnxxxxxx:)

lol. pretty much everyone of us here has the SGS2 so yeah, a lot of people have the hands on experience ur talkin about :P

the screen is great, one of the best mobile screens ive used. iphone 4 has higher res apparently, but i dont see any different. its a fantastic screen.

a camera is a very good one for a mobile phone. however, it'll never replace a dedicated digital camera, nor will any mobile phone camera, in my opnion, not even the nokia N8. but it takes good photos, especially in daylight. this one is totally up to u, im afraid

front camera is great. seriously. its a 2mp cam, and my contacts receive high quality video when they video chat with me.. the video i get from my friends desire S front cam is very ordinary.. but she receives much higher res from mine, so big plus point for the front cam

memory is great. 16gigs built in, thats already plenty.. and expandable, i have another 16gig SD card so there's no shortage of memory on this phone for me.

chatting options, of course.. its got it all, facebook, msn/yahoo/whatsapp/viber.. u name it, android's got it now.

and well, if ur into android (the best mobile OS out there :D) u'd choose this phone over the iphone. its a very personal decision, no one can realy answer this for u

Hellooo:) 2 Questions plz:)

1) Does viber support galaxy sl? Cause I was checking the viber website and it wasn't listed that it's supported.

2) what about" galaxy mini s5570 and ace" my brother wants to buy a smartphone that viber supports within a specific budget so those are the only two I found that fits the budget and can have viber.so which one is better in general as a phone? (and all htc phones I found on the viber website are kinda over the budget)

Thnx:)

hmm.. im not sure people here can comment on alllll the samsung galaxy phones :D
but as far as i know viber is available on android now, not specific to just a few models. so as long as the phones ur checking run android, viber will work :)
