SGS2 wont be recognised by PC after failed kernel

crnmck

Lurker
...kernel (woops)

I've got a major problem, this is the first time I've tried anything like this. Before I did this my phone worked completely fine- but since... no.
I tried rooting my phone via Odin by putting an insecure kernel on it, when I did and turned the phone back on I got the loading screen with the yellow triangle and then nothing as though the phone wasn't on in the first place.
My computer and Odin won't now recognise the phone so I'm not exactly sure how I can fix it so I'm really hoping you guys can help.

Thanks.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums crnmck! :)

Lets see if we can sort you out.

1. What model of phone do you have, i.e. GT-i9100 or the G/M/P/T variants?

2. What stock firmware are you on, i.e. Gingerbread, ICS or Jelly Bean?

3. Which guide to rooting did you use?

4. Which secure, rooted, kernel did you flash via Odin?

Thanks for the welcome! Also I apologise in advance for being a massive idiot when it comes to this stuff and probably of little help :)

1. GT-19100 (Locked to the Orange network, which is what I wanted to change)
2. ICS- I don't have the most up to date version of the firmware, I think I might be one update off.
3. That's an easy one Unlock & Root Samsung Galaxy S 2 - The giffgaff community
4. jeboo_kernel_i9100_v1-2a not sure if that's much help. I couldn't find one with my kernel number so I ended up getting that one from somewhere

I have since found and downloaded the original Orange version of the OS that my phone came with.
Also, whilst trying to track down this Jeboo Kernel thing I downloaded, I noticed I hadn't actually unzipped the file if that's of any relevance, just plonked it straight into the PDA thing in Odin.

-Good Luck

I can see your problem straight away... the Jeboo v1.2a kernel is for rooting Jelly Bean firmware and is NOT for any other version. See the xda post, here.

This incompatibility is what is causing your boot loop. The only way to resolve this is by going into Download mode and flashing the correct rooting kernel as per #1.7 of the Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide. Getting into Download mode may require you to remove your battery for 30 sec's or so and then re-insert it and follow the steps in the earlier video link.

Once you are in Download mode, try connecting to Odin again. You may need to change the port for your USB cable and ensure that you do not have Samsung Kies running in the background.

Thank you! Now my only problem is my PC still comes up as 'USB device not recognized'. Would I be able to put Siyah on my SD card and load it up from there? Odin isn't acknowledging that there's a phone plugged in at all.

The only problem with your suggestion is that to flash the Siyah .zip file, not the .tar file, via Recovery is that you need to be correctly rooted and have CWM, (ClockWorkMod), installed on your phone as per this video from 3.30" onwards.

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry to hear about your phone.

I've moved this to the all things root sub forum:)

Have you tried reinstalling your drivers. Also a bit of a long shot but have you tried a back usb port. I've seen cases where the front usb's have packed in but the rear ones work.

When you plug your phone in to your PC select the option for USB mass storage, your PC should recognise that, then transfer your files

Im assuming you are booting into download mode when saying ODIN will not recognise your phone ?

You don't say what version of ODIN you are using but I would try using v1.85 if you are not already doing so
